Posted - 03/17/2014 : 11:01:11 Since it was published 2 years ago, Steve Ozanich's The Great Pain Deception has become one of the most popular TMS books, with some people even saying it is the best TMS book yet. Dr. Sarno himself wrote the following on the back cover of Steve's book: "I recommend this book because the author, Mr. Ozanich, has lived through the experience of having unsuccessful conventional treatments for pain attributed to structural abnormalities of the spine. Once he became aware of and accepted the diagnostic premises of the Tension Myoneural Syndrome his pain resolved. His experience highlights the significance and power of knowledge in overcoming psychologically induced symptoms."
For the last six and a half months, the call-in TMS discussion group has been discussing The Great Pain Deception chapter by chapter. On March 25th, one week after we cover the final chapter of his book, Steve will be joining us for a special two-hour event. For the first part of the call, Steve will share his TMS success story. After, we'll open up the phone lines for questions and discussion.
The call will start at 8PM ET, one hour earlier than usual. Connection details are as follows (for detailed instructions, visit www.tmswiki.org/ppd/connect):
- If you're connecting by phone, dial 1 201-479-4595 and when prompted enter the pin code 18311499 followed by the pound symbol
- If you're connecting via your computer (Fuze Meeting), go to www.fuzemeeting.com/fuze/app/48fb7aa8/18311499 and follow the instructions from there.
This is a terrific opportunity to talk to Steve directly and get advice on how to overcome your TMS. I hope to see you there!

Posted - 03/26/2014 : 17:01:53 Heya, Wavy Soul, thanks so much for your kind words! It's especially nice to hear nice things from people who I feel like I've known for such a long time. We should chat on the phone some time.
... and the answer is... YES! A preliminary recording of the session is already up in a new thread about takeaways from the call: (5th post) http://www.tmswiki.org/forum/threads/what-was-your-take-away-from-last-nights-call.4207/ There is also a link to a great article by Dr. Zafirides about existential anxieties and TMS in the 8th post.
We might cover the Dr. Z article soon in the Tuesday night discussion group. By the way, we'd love it if you'd drop by some time. Njoy, Eric Watson, myself and Tennis Tom (though TT's schedule may be changing) are regular callers, so there will be some familiar faces. Everyone else is super friendly as well.
I totally agree that Steve's book is great. We had a terrific time reading it.

Posted - 03/26/2014 : 12:51:53 Hi KD'ing,
What you been up to?--No good I hope! I could have sworn I saw you driving by up at Mt. Shasta a few years back, in a white car near the white "ashram"(?) the group up there hang out at, who wear all white? Saw the eclipse up there last year.
Sorry for the segue--what was the question?? Oh yah, SteveO Night @ the Wiki. You missed a good one last night--over 2 1/2 hours with the GPD man--but no TMS FEAR--the Fuse meetings are recorded and you can hear them over at the TMS WIKI site. It usually takes a couple of day for Becca to MP3(?) them--thanks Becca, I'm going to listen again.
Cheers, tt
p.s. Is it raining over on your side of the Pond too? How do you like that new Paradise market at the Cove? |

Posted - 03/25/2014 : 23:42:54 Oops - missed it. I really ovel Steve's book, and have found that people I give it to respond better than to Sarno books I previously tried to get theem to read. Or even if they read them, this one works better. For me, too. I'm always finding new things in it.
Are you going to have the recording of this session on the Wiki, Forest?
Thanks for your amazing service.
Love is the answer, whatever the question |

Forest, the last call (and the final chapter of SteveO's book) continues to resonate through my life. Really helpful. For once, I had nothing to say (unusual for me!) because his conclusions about life and tms were so engaging.
So, what's next?
Heya, njoy, I'm so glad you liked it. The session was definitely a lot of fun. Perhaps that is because I was sipping a cocktail. (A half cocktail since I'm a cohost.) A couple of people had made posts on the other forum talking about how the discussion group helped them get through the week, so we had like 12-15 people on the line, which adds a special energy. In one of the threads, NorthStar wrote the following, which really meant a lot to the whole team as well: "To anyone thinking about the call…TRY IT! Tuesday nights are something I look forward to. I can't make all the calls due to kid schedule but every time I do, I hang up smiling…and like others, TMS symptoms seems to fade. And if you're nervous about talking - fear not. You can mute yourself and just listen. (Another feature I use if I get interrupted or need to rattle some papers or something. )"
For anyone considering calling in, you can read the full thread here: http://www.tmswiki.org/forum/threads/north-star-eric-forest-bruce.4073/#post-24945
Plus, Steve's book is amazing and the final chapter is one of my favorites. Steve told me that if he writes another book, he'd like it to be a more general book about how to live life. (I don't remember his exact words, so I can't speak for him, of course.) I can't wait to read it if he does. TMS is a messenger that tells us that we need to find a better way to live our lives, so it makes sense that his next book would be about that topic.
In terms of what book we do next, right now it looks like the next full book will probably be Walt and Herbie's new book: http://www.tmswiki.org/ppd/God_Does_Not_Want_You_to_Be_in_Pain It's so wonderful that two people who healed on the forums now have a new TMS book, and I think that people will really want to support them. I know that the two of them really love you, njoy (especially Herbie--because that's the way that Herbie is) so I hope you'll join in.
Here's Eric "Herbie" Watson's TMSHelp profile, for anyone who is interested: http://www.tmshelp.com/forum/pop_profile.asp?mode=display&id=2799 His new TMS book will be coming out within the month!
The book hasn't been released yet, so then there is the question of what we do until then. This week is the special event with Steve Ozanich, of course. After that, we'll could have an open discussion or two. We could also invite Nicole Sachs, LCSW, author of The Meaning of Truth to do a call. Steven Conenna, author of wants to do a second session as a follow-up of this session: http://www.tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8987 A third idea is that we could do a 4 session sequence on the Dr. Zafirides' approach to TMS built on existential therapy. Dr. Zafirides wrote an article on the subject. He also did a series of podcasts about the four core existential anxieties: http://www.tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8856 We could do a series of four podcasts, one on each of the fore core anxieties. I really like that idea, actually, and I bet Bruce and Herbie would love it. Would you like that, njoy?
... a third idea is that either you or some other member of this wonderful forum could share an idea and help us plan it... As you know, I'm working about 60 hours a week doing all of the administrative work for the TMS 501(c)(3) nonprofit. As you know, I'm always thrilled to partner with people, because I'm TIRED!!!
Anyway, that's the poop.
Thoughts? Anyone?
