Hey everyone, Ill try to keep this short :)

So... I have been suffering from what started out as inconsistent finger pain 'RSI' and finger hypersensitivity (in all fingers and thumbs) for about 1 1/2 years now beginning in Jan 2013.

It all began after a stressful period of work (computer based) and so I decided to take some time out and go travelling around South America for 5 months hoping that time would heal me. Unfortunately however, the pain didnt go away whilst travelling and when i came back to return to work in June i was in exactly the same position. Fast forward a few months to December 2013 and the pain had spread. It has now extended into both my wrists and elbows, as both golfers and tennis elbow in each!

So, having tried a lot of various different therapies with 0% improvement I eventually came around to reading Mindbody prescription. I then went on to read both Healing Back Pain, Fred Amirs book and am halfway through The Divided Mind. I am fully on board with TMS, self diagnosing myself as a great worrier (forever googling any symptom at any opportunity!), highly moral and a generally stoic 28 yr old guy.

The problem is that even searching my mind and journaling everything i can think of for over a month now and I just cant seem to find or feel any significant emotions to help get rid of my symptoms. In particular i am having the most trouble with the finger hypersensitivity. I havent read anywhere about this symptom in any of the literature and can find almost no information anywhere else either (though an EMG test comfirmed that my nerves are very good). This is leading me to have some doubts which i cant shake even though im trying my best to. The pain also seems to be only a problem when im using a mouse or keyboard, or if im texting on my phone, its very consistent.

Alongside my arm problems i also have a long running 'foot injury' and quite simply I cannot believe that i can continue to suffer all these symptoms for so long without any change. Is there any further advice anyone can give me to help me to convince myself fully that TMS is indeed the problem here, i feel like im so close to acceptance. I live in Finland and there are no TMS doctors anywhere near me, something i really feel would help to 'seal the deal', so to speak.

thanks

hey Tom, thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

You certainly seemed to have picked out some very interesting points which i agree with in full. I guess the fact that im journaling and finding no strong emotions there is a little bit obvious now ive thought about it, they are repressed.

I actually spent a lot of time yesterday reading and watching success stories as i think i had finally got through my initial Sarno honeymoon period and i was beginning to become less positive. However, one particular youtube success story really helped me to put some thoughts into persepective:

In light of this I actually spent today trying my best to avoid thinking about my pain at all, and to my surprise i really felt it helped a lot. I was going through a very stressful time when the conditions began but being such an obsessive person is clearly what created this problem for me in the first place. Constantly worrying about when i will recover, will i recover! It sounds like the 'calendar effect' that you mentioned is me down to a tee. I need to learn to put my thoughts to the back of my mind, stop worrying about when i will get better and just focus on everything else instead, especially my emotional side!

You won't feel the emotions because they've been REPRESSED.

... I havent read anywhere about this symptom in any of the literature and can find almost no information anywhere else either

We all feel our symptom is not written about as much as others.

...(though an EMG test comfirmed that my nerves are very good).

That's good, modern medicine is very good at finding physical symptoms even if they may be of TMS origin.

... This is leading me to have some doubts which i cant shake even though im trying my best to.

It's normal for you to have doubts, otherwise you wouldn't be here asking questions. Most everyone in the Western world doubts that "it's all in their head".

...i also have a long running 'foot injury'...

THE SYMPTOM IMPERATIVE, shifting symptoms. That's GOOD too, you've literally got your TMS gremlin on the run. It's giving you other TMS symptoms desperately trying to distract you from your emotional issues.

...and quite simply I cannot believe that i can continue to suffer all these symptoms for so long without any change.

Many have had chronic TMS for decades and banished it, see Steve Ozanich's history in his great TMS tome, "THE GREAT PAIN DECEPTION". He had TMS back pain for decades and conquered. Trying to watch your TMS disappear is the CALENDAR EFFECT--a watched TMS symptom keeps roiling. TMS fades, sleep on it.

...Is there any further advice anyone can give me to help me to convince myself fully that TMS is indeed the problem here,

"Fully" is TMS PERFECTIONIST thinking again, TMS is part of the HUMAN CONDITION. You get it from your RESERVOIR OF RAGE, overflowing.

...i feel like im so close to acceptance.

You are close--close enough for all intents and purposes, ACCEPTANACE is around the corner, patience.

Last tip: to see the sources of your TMS repressed tension look at the RAHE-HOLMES list of life's stressors that cause psychosomatic TMS dis-ease.
