I would like to open a discussion about various types of meditation, and how different people practice different types. Some meditation provokes very personal experiences, and some also provoke ... questions.

I have had spinal oscillations, which is very intriguing to me, both intellectually and sensation-wise. Each aspect of different thought and breath patterns have caused different types of motion. I once had a alternative-health-care practitioner tell me that what I described (a specific event-sensation) was not possible.

My reply was a gentle "Is that so?"

Is anyone willing to share some of their experiences?

^_^

My heart swells with the thought of the dove
caught and mangled; so severely burnt and wrought.
Like a Phoenix of its ashes, the little dove,
so bold yet humble, rises up in fantastic fashion.

The sages call this the many paths up the same mountain – for both religion and meditation.

No matter what type of meditation you practice the end goal is to quiet the mind to the point that we contact our inner wisdom or it might be labeled our higher self, true self, higher knowing or simply God. Jung called it the collective unconscious.

As thoughts and internal striving ceases relaxation is byproduct. In vapassana we learn the nature of our minds and how they work. In mantra we give the mind a tool to stop the chatter. In moving meditations we become mindful of our bodies and this focus quiets the mind.

When the mind calms it stops provoking hormonal, biochemical and bioelectrical systems body wide. This can create many unique and strange sensations...it can be pleasant or fearful.

If you are in pain there is a wonderful book called: Paradoxical Relaxation – David has great wisdom and has recovered himself. It teaches how to meditation in adversity and pain and how to work through the sensations.
