Posted - 11/10/2013 : 19:26:49 Hi I have not been on the forum in awhile. Thanks to Ace's Keys and a few other things, I did not have problems for quite awhile. However, the fall seems to be a less than optimal time for me. About a month ago, I was having a bad time with stuffy noses every night and morning. Then the sore throats started, probably because of the post nasal drip. Anyway, I seemed to also be having some acid reflux with it making it an agonizing cocktail of sore throats and nasal congestion. It probably started with some minor irritation and the TMS daemon took over and made it into OMG if I don't get rid of this, it will eventually kill me. And all the while there is some nasty little bugger deep inside of me snickering and saying "He! he! I got her again. She falls for it every time. I really got her going this time, googling symptoms, buying books on her imaginary illness. I just have to wait until she isn't paying attention What fun!"
This time I have to admit that I fell for it. But at least I didn't start running to doctors and taking meds. Wish me luck in slaying the TMS daemon. |

happy and contented people never get acid reflux. Reflux is nothing but tms in my opinion.

Posted - 11/13/2013 : 09:28:25 Lilly, I am going to try to find the Gaviscon or Equate. We retired to Panama, so I hope I can find it. I am having less discomfort at night now and my throat is much better. But I need something to dilute the acid when it happens.
I don't think my reflux is all TMS. But I think it is often triggered by 2 things, eating too much chocolate and emotional upset. I had a huge bout of reflux in 2010 after my sister died suddenly. I realized later how guilty I felt that I had not made an effort to see her more. Recently, a very close friend was just diagnosed with terminal cancer and she is in the US and I really can't see much of her. I was also extremely upset with my husband for not addressing an issue with the BATS in our roof. That is a long story. It always seems like when I get these bouts of reflux, there is always an emotional trigger somewhere.

Thanks, Lilly for the advice. I am reading a book called "Why Stomach Acid Is Good For You" by Dr.Johnathan Wright. I think that, being in my 60's, that my stomach acid might be on the low side, so I took his advice and am taking some Betaine HCL with Pepsin supplements. I think it is helping somewhat.
Njoy, thanks for the link. I will really enjoy exploring it! |

Posted - 11/11/2013 : 18:02:49 Hi, chickenbone. Good to see you. You said, "some nasty little bugger deep inside of me" which is what I'm on about, lately. Parts! Okay, I can hear the yawns from some people reading this, lol.
You would be most welcome at our new mailing list. Might learn a new trick or two for dealing with the little bugger. Just click on the link below and send in your email address to start receiving posts. It's been hot and heavy today -- the holiday, I suppose, and people have time to talk about tms and parts therapy.
***** "It's worth considering that tms is not a treatment but rather an unfolding of the self, and a way of living as an emotionally aware and engaged soul." Plum
PLEASE READ! I have been studying and using Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy for several months now and have found it most helpful in digging out what is really going on with me to cause tms symptoms.
Over at tmswiki.org there is a NEW mailing list for those who want to try using IFS for TMS. I hope you will check it out. The conversations are already going strong and unsubscribing is one click if you don't like it.
You can find a form to sign up here: http://www.tmswiki.org/forum/threads/mailing-list-for-parts-therapy-tms.2868/
Learning to use IFS therapy for self help is pretty easy, as these things go. There is a lot of info available on youtube.com and various other web sites. If you search "Internal Family Systems", you'll find it. My recommendation for a book is Self Therapy by Jay Earley which costs less than $ 10 on Kindle (also available in paperback at amazon.com). It is well written and introduces all the basics.
Forums are wonderful (I've loved tmshelp.com for many years) to learn all the possibilities that have helped others in their recovery. The mailing list is specifically about parts therapy and good for connecting in a somewhat more private way.
Finally, best wishes to all tms-ers, especially those who are still struggling with symptoms. May we all find peace and comfort.

Posted - 11/11/2013 : 07:48:11 You have my sympathy! This is a very painful condition.
While the cause may be TMS, the physical consequences can result in very real damage. My personal choice is to use Gaviscon, or the generic version of Equate. Chewables. Chew fast, and follow with water. This diminishes the acid impact on the tender tissues. For me, after I started doing this, just the 'thought' of taking one could sometimes (emphasis on sometimes!) diminish the acid pain.
I also drink lots of water. Also, if the pain is bad at night, elevating the upper body keeps the acid from crawling up too high.
For the sore throat, I will put honey in hot water.
Often, my husband must remind me not to do any activity that involves bending over (like painting baseboard!) until at least an hour after eating.
Believe in yourself ...

My heart swells with the thought of the dove caught and mangled; so severely burnt and wrought. Like a Phoenix of its ashes, the little dove, so bold yet humble, rises up in fantastic fashion. (The Dove - by Jeremy P. Magee)
