Posted - 10/01/2013 : 08:32:56 I would like opinions on how to start treating multiple TMS related issues. I suffer from the following which I believe are TMS related (in order of severity): 1. RSI of the arms and wrists affecting my job. I've suffered with this over the years but it was always in my hand or wrist and would go away by changing type of mouse/trackball/etc. As my job became more stressful and idiotic, the problem got worse to the point where I can barely do my work and was trying PT until I came across TMS from the Harvard RSI 2. IBS. I've suffered with this for about 20 years and it's in retrospect probably the first TMS symptom I had. It got uncontrollable as I almost went through a divorce a few years ago. I've felt strongly over the last year that it is psychological as the symptoms generally only flare up when I'm in stressful situations. Also, any new treatment (placebo) I tried would work for about a month or two making me think I found the problem and cure. I was totally cured for six weeks on a gluten free diet - which makes sense because eating gluten free is the most all-consuming thing I've done in a while. 3. Knee pain (tendonitis-like) following an injury about 4 years ago. PT did not help and I recently had surgery - before learning of TMS. Ironically, all of the focus on rehab, PT and doctor visits made my IBS go away completely for over a month. 4. Bilateral Shoulder pain (bursitis) following a trivial injury about 6 years ago. Also suspected it could be due to carrying a backpack computer case. Diagnosed with impingement. 5. Back pain. I've been "throwing my back out" 3-4 times per year since I was in college. I learned of TMS a little over a week ago. I had long suspected that many or all of my problems were related, and TMS immediately made sense. I read MindBody Prescription and have watched tons of videos online. My question is should I try to attack all of the problems at once or individually? I stopped PT for my RSI. However, I'm still taking probiotics, fiber and other things for IBS. Doing this reduces my IBS induced stress. I'm not sure if this is counterproductive. |

Posted - 10/02/2013 : 13:17:10 Never "attack" TMS, let go of it instead. Forget about your body and begin to work on your life, marriage, relationships, etc. The relationships and how you react to life are the reasons for the TMS.
More precisely, it's how you are not reacting to life. You aren't feeling your emotions so your body is telling you they are there.
Don't seek to heal your body, or to work on one part at a time. If one symptom does heal then take that as a plus and another nail in your cross of doubt.
Stop all healing techniques if you want to heal, and begin soothing yourself, breathing techniques, meditation, laughing, walking, running, etc. Get a better sense of wellbeing and a better sense of how you feel at any point in the day. Begin reversing the robot-you.
Also stop using terms like "throwing back out" they are a form of guided imagery. Change your internal language to words of light and hope.
Fear is the instigator. Relax, breathe, and start to find purpose in your life that fills you with peace.
Healing will come, but you have to accept that your body is ok, or you run the TMS ferris wheel in circles.
Good luck Steve |
