Posted - 08/19/2013 : 20:48:18 Hey guys. It's been ages since I've been around, probably only a few of you remember me. I used to have RSI back in 2006 and hung around for a while after. A year ago (ish) I sprained my ankle, and it didn't get treated properly. Even after treatment it seemed to take forever healing and got inflamed a lot. I was recommended physical therapy and did a bunch of that, then had a "relapse" with lot of fluid in the ankle joint, got an MRI which came back clear for structural injury. Then several weeks of rest, more PT...it seemed to be getting better a few months later, but again slowly.
A few times I wondered to myself "Hm, could this be TMS?" I even came back here to do searches and see if inflammation and swelling could be TMS, since I never had swelling before. But I was always doubtful because there was some scar tissue in my ankle and it was a little weak, and I did have a real injury that can take a while to heal.
Finally in the last week I kept thinking it was ridiculous that it was still hurting because the patterns were just getting more and more random. How could I go on a two mile walk and have hardly any pain, then hurt while sitting at the computer? Oops, that's a classic TMS sign, huh?
Well, yeah. And I was also somewhat depressed for a few months. Another sign! So I finally started applying TMS thinking to the ankle and doing some journaling and lo and behold, I've seen a lot of improvement in the last week, and the light tingling that signals improved bloodflow for me. Also I started getting random pain in other places in my feet and knees. Hahaveryfunny. Not falling for that one, body.
It's just been a little while so far, and I haven't got up the nerve to do anything I absolutely couldn't do before, so it's just a qualified success as yet. But I was excited enough that I wanted to come here and share it. I'm going to keep working toward getting back to normal. And my PT officially graduated me today (for the second time, heh) so I have that signal of confidence too.

Yep that TMS bastard is tricky.
So far so good with me. Done some activities/intensity levels that I had mostly shied away from -- standing on the bus, longer periods standing, faster biking, running on regular ground. Went totally without anti-inflammatories today and everything feels and looks fine.
Doing some journaling as well. The usual!

Posted - 08/21/2013 : 16:05:17 Good work Arm! No matter how familiar we are with TMS the brain will continue to come up with ways to distract from Those scary emotions. I've been off of this site for years as Well but came back to check out allergies for my kids that Seems to be a problem at the moment.
Nice to see your post and keep on feeling your feeling. All the best. |
