Working the TMS program very diligently on the whole arm/shoulder issues I have had recently. There is some progress, but not all better by any stretch. Just noticed I have 2 big hives near my waist line and I have not worn any different clothes, used any different detergent or eaten anything out of the ordinary. My dog kicked some dirt in my face after he went potty but it wasn't the dirt mixed w/ anything bad..just mud/grass..I am assuming 'hives' from stress/TMS? Anyone ever have this as TMS? They aren't itchy or painful just big and red, weird! There is no bulls eye rash (thank God)..there are two of them and one small red area on my arm. What next!??

Karen, search for him on this forum, and then search for posts by chickenbone as she used/s his methods and writes well of her experience. His books are 'In an Unspoken Voice' and 'Freedom from Pain'. Both are excellent.

Also check out this thread from the wiki.

Karen, my love, have you explored the words of Peter Levine? Given your medical trauma it may be a very good place to bring some healing and much needed soothing into your life.

Back2-It, Lady Day may be my favourite artist. This is a great song. May God Bless Her.

No problem, Susie, I figured that..:)

Sorry , Karen. That was sarno not Sharon. Forgot to check my spellcheck.

Thanks Susie..So sorry to hear you lost your Dad at such an early age. I lost both my parents 23 years ago, 5 months apart and that definitely contributes to my TMS..Appreciate your good advice..:)
Hugs,
Karen

I've had hives many times. They are harmless. The first time was the day after my father died. I was fourteen. Now they're almost laughable. If I remember correctly, they were one of Sharon's first symptoms. Didn't he say he broke out in hives each time he had to jump out of a plane? Just ignore them. Typical Tms bs.

Wow Back2it, that is a lot for a young soul to have to endure..I am sorry you went through all that pain..I don't recall having symptoms until around age 19 or so when the love of my life died and my parents got divorced..(a double whammy indeed)..It started w/ my low back and has moved all over the place through the years.

Ironically I am at work (chiro asst. by day)..trying to turn the Doc onto TMS principles! He is open! I have symptoms from head to toe as well and I am really trying not to panic so much. Thanks for telling me about the mid to low abdominal pain thingy potentially being TMS as well..Since then, it is subsiding!

You are so right, IcelikeAn, whenever I research my symptoms online I really start to freak out! Sometimes, however, it can help if I deduce that I am not dying...at least not yet..:)
Hugs to both of you,
K

I was certainly amazed I was able to control my skin issue the hydrodenotis with Sarno's way.

It totally worked. If you google this term you will see all sorts of horrible pictures of it and that its considered an autoimmune issue.

Lukcily when I found out what it is I did not research to much into it which makes me believe that helped me heal quicker from it.

When it came back it was during tough times, family move, new stress, I understand it was just a distraction at the time and did not go into detail on what was causing it. Now I think of it most likely a move to another house.

These search engines are really bad for us TMS'rs. If you can just stick with TMS doctors or Doctor who are more mindbody that would be great.

**Sure I can lay down on a bed of nails and not have pain but why am I having back pain when laying down on a soft mattress?

Yes, medical trauma that is real, such as emergency surgery can help to fuel anxiety about health and everything else. I have been there myself.

Also, because from a very early age anxious little kids develop symptoms they do not understand and are never explained to them and they develop an unhealthy fear of any bodily sensations. I had sharp chest pains when I was five and six years old. Fortunately, before the era of specialization, my pediatrician told my parents that I was a nervous little kid and that breathing into a paper bag would help to relive the symptoms by increasing my CO2 levels. It worked. But other learned behaviors in my life only served to increase my anxiety and frustrations and worry and led to various symptoms all through my teens and adult life -- symptoms that I never recognized as anxiety. Fear builds, stress builds and it is all cumulative in someone who does not recognize or understand it; then suddenly, as Red Foxx used to say, you get the "Big One". One of my big ones was the rib and side pain, which went along with the rest of the "fight or flight" reflex and turned my right side into a bent over C.

Friends used to "rib" me about being a hypochondriac, and I used to joke about it myself, not knowing that all the weird symptoms I had, literally from toe to head, were due to anxiety. I thought it was funny, until it crippled me. Then I had to learn and practice and be patient and work to change life long behaviors and make a major change or two in my life.

Do you know the song sung by Billie Holiday, "Getting Some Fun Out of Life"? Hardly anyone knows it and nobody sings it, but it is a great song for many reasons.

Thank you, sweetie..:) that is very interesting..I had no idea about the history of hypochondriasis in this way..Yes, I sure can be a hypo, my friend tease me about this all the time..Part of it, however, is because thru my life I have had actual big things happen on the physical level..That is, when I was 14 yrs old I almost died, literally. Had to have major surgery while wide awake because it was on my lung and you breathe differently under anesthesia..was an awful experience for a teen or anyone to go thru. I believe that was when it all began..I also had shingles in my 20's and was sick for months w/ that..I almost lost my right eye in 2nd grade from a fall in the playground, being accidentally pushed into the back of a car..there is more but I won't bore you..The point being that while I am a hypo, at times, there were many times that it wasn't hypochondriasis and in fact something very real and very frightening. All in all, I am healthy..with the exception of being a little crazy mentally, lol! Thanks again for your help!
Hugs,
K

The pain in the right sit of your abdomen is classic hypochondria, as defined by the ancient Greeks, with "hypo" meaning below and "chondros" meaning the cartilage of the ribs. People who suffered from this malady were afflicted with "hypochondria" or "itis", and it was persistent or never went away. Why? Because even back when Aristotle was eating calamari an slugging down ouzo, people were suffering from anxieties of all sorts. It has always been part of the human condition, only now we are just rediscovering it.

It was later identified as part of the reaction of the "flight or fight" reflex present in all of us since we called the nearest cave home.

SA, you are monitoring or scanning for symptoms constantly. This is a learned behavior and one that can be changed, but it does take will and practice and action of a productive and (to you) meaningful day, or, as in the case of most singers, night.

Hives, cold sores, acne, different mechanism of attack but all serve the same trigger from being "stressed" and "rundown". Sarno mentions all of these in Mbp as Tms equiv.
on the skin.

Skin manifestations of all types are common symptoms of anxiety. TMS=Anxiety Illness.

Nothing will change until the underlying behavioral aspects of anxiety are recognized and behaviors are changed. This takes time and maybe counseling from somebody who understands the true nature of psychogenic illness and most of all has experienced the same and recovered.

I suggest reading Hillbilly's cure and reading and personally applying and meditating on Ace1's Keys.

"What next" will keep coming and coming and coming without an understanding of anxiety and gathering the tools to quell it. It can be done, and you can be eventually symptom and "What next" free.

Yea what next lol. It's utterly ridiculous we get these things. Will make a good story for grand kids when you are the only grandparent still doing full tackle on the field .

All honestly my mom is going through that on her hands and poriasis on her neck, all Tms because once she left her husband it went away.

I had a problem called hydro dentils which causes bad skin boils.

Sarno said treat as Tms . I did.

Are your pains getting erradict or something new happening with them for you to be getting this?
