Researchers at UNC have found that chronic pain resulting from a traumatic event has a biological and genetic basis. The result are absolutely fascinating! Please take the time to read it, but let me leave you with this quote from the study's senior author, Dr. Samuel McLean, an anesthesiologist:
“Our study findings indicate that mechanisms influencing chronic pain development may be related to the stress response, rather than any specific injury caused by the traumatic event."
Yeah, no kidding...

Dr. Z: As we all know here, TMS sufferers often falsely claim that their pain is caused by an old injury so the findings of the subject study sound fishy. I realize the article is an extract of the paper but I wonder about the sample size. A 20% indication might not be significant. The motivation for the study is also suspect. Could there be grant money involved?
All good points. I was not able to find the sample size of this study. Replicable results would also be important. Thanks as always for your insights!!
