Hello dear friends,
It has been awhile since I checked in. So much has happened in the past 2 years. My surrogate brother who I lived w/ for 15 years died a very tragic death nearly in front of me in Las Vegas. 2 of my 3 dogs died in succession shortly after that. I then moved a total of 5 times in the past 1 1/2 years and currently live in upstate NY. I am singing again, part time on the weekends and have not painted since my 7 months of living at the Jersey shore. I was also, btw, a hurricane Sandy victim and that is part of why I am here in the Albany area..the other reason being that I am dating someone in this area. A great, complicated, shy man who came with baggage in the heart which causes many ups/downs in the relationship..Of course, my own fears, insecurities, tendency to cling/depend upon him too much cause half of our issues.

Other than one new friend, he is all I have up here..so I often feel isolated. Thank God for my wonderful dog Kaya, who helps alot..That is my update..now for the TMS and injury.

10 days ago I was walking in Troy, NY and I twisted my ankle badly on an uneven sidewalk. It swelled and bruised a lot and has been very painful..I waited 3 days did (Rest, ice, compression, elevation) and then went to the ER for X rays. They found a hairline fracture in the fibula..said it needed only a removable air cast and follow up w/ an ortho.

I went to the orthopedic who was an elderly gentleman in practice many years. He could have been a Sarno devotee..He told me my biggest problem was between my ears..(said it lovingly)that I was worrying too much and if I were on a desert island w/no treatment I would heal in time..he did not say the pain was in my head, I have a real injury. He took more Xrays and said he could not find the fracture any longer. So that is the good news.

The aircast was not working well for me, kept stopping circulation so I am in a smaller, black, strap up splint.I was on it quite a bit yesterday, perhaps over did it and I didn't take as much advil to give my stomach a break. It's 4AM, I cannot sleep because i am getting intermittent, sharp pain in my toes. I made the MISTAKE (or not) of looking online and it said possible nerve damage..I immediately got sick to my stomach and terrified reading that..It is 10 days after the injury..I pray that the toe pain is in fact, TMS..I sure have A LOT of things that my brain would start the cycle of TMS over..
Hope to hear some feedback, suggestions..I also didn't use ice yesterday for the first time and couldn't get an appointment for PT til Monday (which will be 15 days after the injury)
I am so scared right now..thanks for listening....
PS...just did more reading and turns out that plantar fasciitis can cause pain in the toes and tingling in the feet as well..I have had a bout of that b4..I had to take out my arch support (that came w/ the sneakers) just to fit my foot into my sneaker while wearing the brace..so maybe that is irritating the previous fasciitis and causing the new symptoms..AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh I could scream! I have an audition in a few hours for voice over work and I need the work badly..I have to get some sleep..

Great choice Karen! You are not going to be able to hurry this along too much faster then mother nature allows, the tissues will take the time it takes to heal, don't impose the TMS "calendar effect" on a real injury either, distract yourself with other activities--like PAINTING!

I run in the pool almost daily for thirty minutes with a buoyancy belt. Taking SteveO's advice I put some music into my day by listening to a waterproof FM radio. The best one I've found is only about $39, by Fitness Technologies. It's given me hours of pleasure and rhythm to run with while listening to my favorite radio stations. You can buy them form Swim Outlet over the internet.

As we speak, I'm watching the Number One tennis player in the world Djokovic, struggling to play at Monte Carlo--he shouldn't be out there! They said he's heavily taped and, "If you have ankle issues you have to let it heal fully or it will keep nagging you." But, it's his "home town" and he's playing for big bucks!

Karen, don't get OCD about healing faster, you won't be able to speed things along much faster, it's like picking at a scab. Read SteveO's and Ncole's Sachs new TMS books for some subliminal TMS placebo effects. I think you can read Nichole's "TRUTH" book for free over the internet.

Cheers,
tt

Just a quick update for my pals who responded:
I went to physical therapy yesterday and although the testing was very painful at times, I believe it helped. The ankle looked even physically a little better and I slept well last night, no crazy nerve pain in the foot..I do have a nasty sprain but I am going to do everything in my power to assist my body in healing as quickly as possible and in NOT allowing TMS to rear it's ugly head in the process. It's times like this when one has a real injury you have to be careful because TMS is always looking for an 'excuse' to begin. And, as far as the typical stressors that bring it on, i have most of them.

Emotionally it is very hard to have it finally be beautiful outside and watching others power walking in the park, etc. I have 2 choices: get depressed/anxious about what I cannot do (temporarily) or go to the YMCA and tread water/exercise in the pool. I think I will take the later.
Hugs to all,
Karen

Hi Sam,
I love Louise Haye..Had the pleasure of meeting her at a conference many years ago..Thanks for the reminder..I am afraid to move ahead, that is true and I am not sure about the people or situations in my life right now..that is very true..

Hi Balto,
It happened in Troy, New York..not NYC..And it happened in a boring way..just walking on an uneven sidewalk..not something more exciting like a skiing accident!

Hey Tom,
Thanks so much for the compliment dear friend..I will check out that ace bandage..Have my first PT appt. today..Can't wait til i cannot remember which side it happened on! :)

Thanks!

Hi Karen,

You lost 42 lbs., you were hot to begin with, your bf is a lucky man! Do you have any pics up on your website, inquiring minds want to know? Me the "good cop", I don't know if that's a role I'm comfortable with but Thanks Art! Karen it's good you're listing your life stressing situations at the top, you're getting it. You've gone through a lot! I wouldn't want to have been in your shoes when you had to deal with your bf's death--and now ironically TMS doesn't want you to fit into your shoes either--to paraphrase Deepak, "Staying home with a sprained ankle is the Western form of meditation."

I've had numerous sprained ankles, the first was the worst taking a year before I couldn't remember which side it was on, but I was back to playing tennis withing a week or so. The rest I just wrapped and moved about gingerly. There are various levels of support bandaging for it, trainer's taping is the most, going to an old style Ace bandage to the Koban style bandage, then neoprene sleeves for some warmth and support. You saw the doc and there's not much more you can do but give it time to heal and do some PT therapy like doing the alphabet with your foot, time will do the rest.

G'luck,
tt

maybe you should stop texting while walking in New York city.

No, I don't know everything. I'm just here to share my experience.

Louise Hay says that ankle injuries reflect the fear of moving ahead. Are you clear on where you "stand" with the persons and situations in your life?

Thanks TT and Art..nice to hear from you guys! :) Appreciate the wisdom and good advice..The only thing I will say is that Art, it is certainly not inevitable that everyone will get a terrible illness one day..Other than how TMS kicks my butt sometimes (hasnt in quite a long while actually)..I am very healthy, eat healthy, lost 42 pounds and don't plan on dying one day from anything other than good old, old age..Again, appreciate you both!

I keep breaking my retirement. Have to stop scanning for comments that might grab me..

Karen, think you need a little of the old "good cop/bad cop" treatment. TT's the good cop, I'm the mean sob as usual.

1: You still show very little insight into your own self-destructive patterns. All these years, all these posts, all the kind and generally helpful advice folks have given you, and it's like you've never read a word of it.

2: You should under no circumstances be googling symptoms.

3: What are you going to do when you eventually do get a serious illness? And you will my dear. We're all mortal after all. I suggest you get to work accepting that unpleasant reality. Save your terror for the real deal. It will arrive soon enough, I promise you.

4: in the meantime, try to enjoy your God-given good health. As I said, it won't last forever.

5:Sorry for the tough love, but I'm telling you the truth. So is TT, only in a much nicer way.

6: I partially take back #1. Something's stuck, just not enough.

Hi Karen, I'm half awake doing my segmented sleep pattern. The short answer is:

You have a simple real sprained ankle, YOUR TMS is that you are way over the top making a mountain out of a mole-hill!!!

Take whatever pain killer you have and go back to sleep.

The solution: Go to any drugstore or section of the supermarket and get a Koban style ace bandage. They are the disposable type and apply. That's what my orthopedist put on me when I severely sprained my ankle for the first time. You can then put shoes on over them and make it to your audition, maybe use a cane for some support.

Forget about the plantar-fascitis, and fracture bull-****--that's your TMS running wild!!! Your doc descerned you were a worrier right off the bat--IT'S JUST A SIMPLE SPRAINED ANKLE--I've had bunches of them--stop you're friggen' worrying and go back to sleep or go to the pharmacy for the Koban style ace bandage. Even if you had a SLIGHT fracture, they heal STRONGER then before and there's NOTHING you can do to speed it along and you DON'T have a fracture to begin with. Trust in G-D like it says on our money and STOP looking **** up on the internet except for porn as it was invented by Al Gore for military usage. If you need heavier duty support for gymnasitcs, check back with me and I'll give you next step. I'm going back to sleep and I'm not the least worried about your ankle and neither should you be.

See ya',
