Posted - 04/09/2013 : 07:07:46 I posted earlier about a back injury I had 1.5 yrs ago. It was "made worse" by a boat ride about 6 months after the original injury. I am fairly certain that I have TMS. I took the boat out yesterday for about 1 hour. Went home and had some low back pain. Woke up this morning with severe right groin pain. I have never had this pain before. After about an hour it went away and I have the usual tightness in my low back/glutes. The worst part about this is the fear of the previous diagnoses (bulging disc L5/S1) and wondering if I am going to be able to work. The real weird thing now is that in the last month my right quadriceps has become amazingly tight. No matter what type of stretching or massage I do it won't release. For the most part I can relieve my pain by massage or stretching which makes me believe that it is of muscular origin (TMS). |

Posted - 04/09/2013 : 12:33:25 I have the feeling that especially things like driving, walking, cycling or boat rides in this particular case can cause symptoms, because your mind often starts to wander off and you think about all kinds of things during it. In the past some of those thoughts could have given you stress. Therefore your mind might associate these activities with possible rise of stressful thoughts, even when they are not there... so, the mind might create pain to prevent you from doing activities that have a higher chance of you getting stressful thoughts.. |

Posted - 04/09/2013 : 12:00:31 WPT7: I had a similar experience with groin pain two years ago while I was driving home from Florida. I realized later that the trip was a stressful event for several reasons. For one thing my wife and I were returning home after a long absence. You might have negative associations with your boat due to your past experience. One thing to look out for is negative conditioning where you reflexively experience pain in certain situations. I wouldn’t avoid boat rides in the future: just say to yourself that boat rides are enjoyable, harmless and you will feel find when it’s all over. Good luck!

Take your back back by REREADING your Sarno. "Extruded" discs are bull-****! Reread what the Good Doctor says about wrong dx's of discs. You are still buying into the FEAR concept generated by the current medical/industrial complex.
You have been conditioned to feel TMS pain everytime you ride in a vehicle, it's bull ****! I drive Jeeps which have really stiff suspensions and am about to take off for a long road trip in a Lotus Elise that's even stiffer. It takes a yoga class to get in and out of itand if you run over a bug, you can count how many legs it had--no disc problem! If backs were that delicate, my seat would be oozing in spinal fluid. The only way I would fear injury from driving a vehicle would be if I went off a cliff on Highway 1 and you shouldn't fear driving over a bot dot in the road either.

Even so I wouldn't think it would rattle around my back enough to "extrude" more disc material to cause pain in an entirely different place... This is so frustrating. I have literally deadlifted my own bodyweight about a month ago working out with a personal trainer and had no pain from that. But the boat ride caused more pain than any workout I've ever done recently.... |

Unless you fell off a 40 ft. mast, you could not have structurally injured yourself by going for a boat ride. You sustained no trauma at the time. It's time to curl up (maybe) with a good glass of wine and a Sarno book for a TMS "knowledge penicillin" booster. The body is strong, it's the mind that's weak.
