Hi Everyone, happy easter, I hope u have all been well. I'll try to make this short & easy.

I haven't posted much here recently & have only just skimmed thru some posts occasionally. I just wanted to focus on my healing without being too distracted, plus the fact that my mind is very susceptible.

In Nov 2012 while I was still having my other problems I started having a burning sensation 'down there'. Not when I peed but afterwards. It was like a stinging sensation. Sometimes the stinging would last an hour or 2, sometimes not. Some days it would be bad, some days not too bad. I had urine tests done twice & both came back negative. Anyway recently I started feeling as though something was swollen especially on my right side. so I went see a gyne. She inspected and said it looked swollen & red at the opening of the vagina & took swabs for tests. Since the results would take time, she gave me a couple of creams to use. Tests came back negative for pap smear but positive for Strep B bacteria. She phoned and asked how I was feeling. I said pretty much the same so she told me to pick up some antibiotics & said to used them if things didn't clear up after 2 days .

Anyway I came home & researched Strep B. It seems that it lives in our guts & even sometimes in the vagina too without any symptoms. In fact 30% women without symptoms test positive. The pain can be quite fierce at times & I can feel tenderness in my lower abdomen on the right side where my fibroid is & a corresponding pain in my back in the same area too. I've also read that it could be other things.

I also know that antibiotics can kill good bacteria & sometimes lead to more problems so I'm wondering what to do.

Despair is setting in as I feel that its a pattern where I get something & it just persists.

Pls do let me know what you think & feel free to ask anything.

Thanks

Mala

Ola Plum,

I'm in sunny kalifornica, it's raining here in frisco/southern marin. Where are you, in the Alps?

Sounds like you need a good watsuing:

Hey Tom,

You're absolutely on the money (which is why I said meantime...), but in my favour I do declare that essentially this is the warp and weft of life. Herbs are healing foods, as is water and plump peaches and a nice green salad. Or a juicy fillet (which I relished this evening). Sometimes (always?), it's sweetest to settle on feeling good. So where are you when I need you!? This gal hungers for a hot-tub, a massage and an old-fashioned lie-in.

Well Mala, since you asked and welcomed the men into the fray, have you given any thought that it may be a TMS substitution symptom? I'm all for getting symptomatic relief from rx's, complementary medicine or "whatever" works--but this IS the TMS board--and I feel some thought should be given to the emotional side of it, since that's the premise of the forum.

Take a look at the Rahe-Holmes and see which emotionally life changing issues that cause TMS/psychosomatic dis-ease may be in play causing your infection too.

TAKE THE HOLMES-RAHE STRESS TEST

G,luck!

Boric acid is incredibly effective, whether it's yeast or infection. As a child in UK, it was all we used and we assumed we would get over whatever was 'down there' very quickly.

It's one of those very cheap things you can get in a drugstore - you have to dissolve it in boiling water - it's very basic stuff.

Love is the answer, whatever the question

Mala, have you tried other natural remedies?
Have a look at this link: http://www.blessedmaineherbs.com/womensherbs.html

Scroll down to the description of vitex agnus castus. I take this to regulate menstruation and soothe pmt but it addresses a wealth of ills including fibroids. Gail also writes sagely about the menopause so there may be something in her other words for you. I'm not menopausal yet but am reading around alternatives to HRT because I'll be shunning that too. I tried the pill in my early twenties and it really didn't suit me at all, this and laser treatment following a dodgy pap-smear led me to embrace a very natural and holistic approach to all things feminine. Herbs are so gentle and powerful. It's amazing how beneficial they can be.

Your gyne sounds lovely, a rarity in itself, and if you're in doubt it's best to check out the physical aspects. Have you read 'Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom' by Christiane Northrup. She's a doctor who fully embraces mind-body healing.

Be sure to let us know how you get on. x

Thx njoy & Plum. Plum when this first started, I too had cranberry juice, the unsweetened stuff but all it did was make it burn more. I'm wondering whether it is thinning of the vaginal walls which happens due to lack of estrogen. I drink a lot of water & have started taking a good probiotic. My dr gave me 2 creams to use. One is an anti fungal (even though no yeast showed up in the tests) & another cream is an estrogen based cream. I have been using both for a week & the results are inconsistent. Some days feel better other days just the same.
Apparently vaginal thinning is common in menopausal women & I am not on any HRT.
The thing that worries me is that the pain seems to be on the right side which is where my fibroid is. The soreness extends to the groin & lower back as well. So it could be a real physical problem. The gyne said it could be adhesions & scarring & the fibroid which is causing all this. I like my gyne. She is a sensible, practical lady. Maybe I should have a laparoscopic procedure to check it out.

Hi Mala,

My thoughts on this...
Very, very occasionally I experience the burning you speak of. I always take cranberry at the first sign and it clears up within hours and is completely gone by morning. I favour triple strength cranberry capsules (2 do the trick nicely), and drink unsweetened cranberry juice and plenty of water. I keep a concentrate in the fridge, it doubles in culinary use. Can't quite recall exactly how cranberry works but essentially it creates an inhospitable environment for the bad bugs and they take leave.

If you do have to resort to antibiotics then be sure to replenish the good bacteria. I recommend a probiotic called threelac for this. It really is superb and quite brilliant if a candida overgrowth is a factor.

Naturally it goes without saying that you still need to fully engage in the tms healing but why suffer meantime. Hope this helps. Love to you x

Mala, don't do antibiotics unless the natural remedies fail to work on your symptoms. It's overkill. Our bodies need bugs!

Hi Tom, there must be something in the ether. Could be tms but then may not be. Hard to know really.

Barbara,I have been researching & what seems to come up is putting raw garlic there to kill the bacteria & also using a mild solution of hydrogen peroxide or boric acid. It Seems that using a good probiotic is also a good idea. Not sure about the garlic & peroxide though.

Birdie , thank for the info & also for the link you sent me. I have had a look & will read more.

Sue, that is exactly what confuses me. Apparently many women have it without symptoms & of course in the case of pregnant women it poses a danger to the baby so that's why they are tested.

So I'm still not sure whether I should take the antibiotics or not.

Mala

Hi Mala,

I tested positive for Group B Strep during both my pregnancies. I had it in my urine too....A lot of it! I never had any symptoms, but they wanted me to take antibiotics, so I did. I didn't notice any difference since I had no symptoms to begin with. Just my experience.

Hi Mala,
sorry to hear you're struggling with this kind of problems...very nasty. If you don't know her already please check out Abigail Steidley, she's a certified Martha Beck mind-body-coach and cured herself with the Sarno-approach. She really had big issues with something called pelvic pain syndrome, vulvodynia and interstitial cystitis. She's lots of very helpful informations on her website and also a free download-pdf with great mind-body-healing-tools!

Kind regards from Germany sends Birdie

Hi

Google strep b natural remedies - there are many. You may not need antibiotics -the natural remedies work.

Hi Mala,

Not my department, but it's weird you popped in my head earlier today and I was wondering where you were. As far as your condition, if you take a more universal view of TMS, it could be attributable to TMS.

Happy Easter,
