Perhaps I was all over the place with my first post. I do believe that what I am going through is TMS, I guess I am just curious about the movement from my buttock to my calf/foot. The pain has returned to my buttock, and I can't elevate my foot(stand on my toes) without support. I really do not want to see a dr as I fee like I know what they will say... steroid injection. I have still played tennis(not too well, dragging a foot) and even gotten on the treadmill. I was sleeping fine until 2 days ago when I started to ache a little, which wakes me up. I feel like I am just worried about the foot not gaining strength back and then the worry makes everything worse.

chefjen, I don't know if this will help you or not, but last summer I could not lift up onto my right foot without pain. I had pain in my 2nd and 3rd toes that moved all around--first it was between the toes, tingling, then it was pain on top of the toes, then it was sharp stabbing pain between first and second toes. I had top-of-foot pain, sensitivity, tenderness, and swelling all around my foot and ankle. I got all kinds of diagnoses such as tendonitis, Morton's Neuroma, etc. Multiple tests showed absolutely nothing. It took awhile but I finally realized (around January) that it was TMS and have been doing the "work" ever since. I got an official diagnosis from Dr. Rashbaum last month, which helped a bit. Still working with fear and stress. Foot injuries absolutely suck. I've been getting back to normal activity very slowly. Please email me if you need support or encouragement.

Thank you both for replying.

Chickenbone: was your foot ever limp? I haven't been able to come up on my toes for a week now. I keep telling myself to not think about it, however that is hard when I am limping. I have come to terms with the pain in my buttock, but this foot deal is driving me crazy!! I did have a very long deep massage today and she said my buttock, and thigh was so tight..I might even have bruises tomorrow:). But I am hopeful that it will take the pressure off the nerve that is leading to my foot. Glad I found a place to talk about this, because almost everyone I have told things I'm nuts, for not seeing a dr about my foot.

This is very similar to the TMS symptoms I had. I don't have them anymore now that I realized it was TMS and harmless. I got my mind off of the symptoms by just not caring about them and withdrawing my attention from them. This is a very hard thing to do. I had bad pain in my hip, buttock, leg, sometimes foot and calf and foot cramps.

This is an extremely common site for TMS to strike, especially someone like you who is so physically active. TMS will try to steal as much of the joy out of your life as it can.

What "makes you worry" is going to continue. This is the goal of TMS symptoms.

The fact that the pain is moving around is a good sign. Your mind has chosen a new spot to inflict pain, one that is apparently able to grab more of your attention.

TMS is a clever process. Don't let it win. Understand its tricks, accept the symptoms as benign, and stay on the steady path of treating the symptoms as psychogenic and not physical/structural.
