Posted - 03/08/2013 : 06:49:36 Hello,
to rule out something "serious" and to be sure to treat it as a psychosomatic disorder, my conservative orthopedic doctor sent me to a specialized ambulance for muscle diseases. Beside some harmless results like anemia and osteopenia (what I already knew) the tested rheumatoid factor came out "weak positive". The same factor was tested several years ago and came out as "unverifiable". The C3 and C4 complement factors are too low, I forgot to mention.
Unfortunately the medical report will follow only some weeks later, so I don't know how to interprete this value.
Please can some of the doctors in this forum or other competent people help?
The testet value is called ANA S, the result was weak positive 1:100 with a granular fluorescence pattern, the rheumatoid factor is 12,6 Ul/ml and thus not very elevated (reference value <= 10). Other subtypes of ANA were not verifiable what I would interpret as a very good sign.
So perhaps many people have a positive ANA and do not have symptoms? Guess what, I like to hear something like that so I can treat it TMS like. I really don't want to have some "real" disease.
I also remember SteveO said rheuma is just another severe form of TMS.
Beside the different body aches I feel very sick when I spend time in the sun (feels for hours or days flu like) and I have problems with very dry mucous membranes & eyes.
Any suggestion will be apreciated!

Ps 2,47 mmol/l should be about 10 mg/dl

Posted - 03/08/2013 : 16:17:06 Hi Birdie,
I really do think that the RA thing is TMS and I, personally would not have these test even done. I put that stuff in the "nocebo" category.
However, I am concerned about your sun sensitivity and also your osteopenia. It is probably just a shot in the dark, but I also had extreme sun sensitivity along with osteoporosis. One of the things that happens when you are in the sun is that your body makes Vitamin D. If your body is trying to protect you from high calcium in your blood, then it will suppress your vitamin D,25 level. So the sun would bother you. My problem was that I had a serum calcium reading over 10 and a high normal PTH reading, so I had a parathyroid tumor. This is also what was causing my osteoporosis. This condition will give you a lot of bad symptoms. Why don't you have your serum calcium checked to rule this out? If it is over 10, then you want to have both serum calcium and PTH done together. If your calcium is 10 or higher, then your PTH should be close to zero. Other things that can cause sun sensitivity are taking antidepressants, menopause and thyroid problems. |

Posted - 03/08/2013 : 15:48:53 Ok, I just found out that positive ANA-titers are also found in "firbomyalgia" and many "CFS"-patients....so it's TMS and only a form of highly activated nervous system afflicting the immune system (kind of immune hyperarousal I guess). I recently noticed that, when I am stressed, get light fever and flu-like symptoms and a sore throat but without being really ill (the symptoms decrease when the stress lessens). I also interpret this as autoagression or self-hatred. TMS is really fascinating stuff...

Posted - 03/08/2013 : 10:00:16 My wife has a high ANA suggesting a connective tissue disorder and possibly more. She can work harder and do more physical labor than most men.
A couple of weeks ago she dug 8 3 deep holes to plant large trees our ground is all rock and it requires a pick and pry bar to dig in.
I have has three fractured vertebra and two ruptured disks in my back for 30 years after a auto accident. I have no back pain after the initial healing.

Posted - 03/08/2013 : 08:21:45 @shawnsmith: the CCP-test was not done!
@tennis tom: I didn' speak to doctors about the values, they were sent to my home.
What's really bothering me is that I can't stay in the sun because I really feel sick, sometimes I get fever.
The doctor who examined me - by the way - totally agreed with me that my pain is probably psychosomatic. He told me that most of the patients who come to the muscle consultation have unconscious problems. But most of his collegues don't agree with him, he told me. So unfortunately the letter of this doctor with the diagnoses will arrive only a few weeks later because he's very busy. In this case he will not be the barber I ask for a haircut, he really was open to the psychosomatic approach!
PS Ok, I now had the time to think about all that...and: I will ignore it and don't pay any attention to whatever the outcomes of the testings are. I'll also try to treat my spooky sun-reactions like conditioning: perhaps I will be able to de-condition myself so that I can stay in the sun a bit longer.

Posted - 03/08/2013 : 07:23:52 Hi Birdie78,
I am not a physician, and perhaps one of them on this message board will respond to your query, but keep in mind that with the Rheumatoid Factor test 5 - 10% of the general population are positive with no symptoms of Ra and that goes up to 20% in the elderly. So the question becomes, why are there so many people who test positive but have no symptoms? In addition, why is it that about 20- 25% of those with Ra are negative for it? What I am saying is, I don't think the test is a very conclusive one for determining if one has Ra. Something to think about, or perhaps add to your confusion.
Have you, by any chance, had the anti-CCP test done on you? This is also a blood test which helps your doctor confirm a diagnosis of Ra.
For those not familiar with Rheumatoid Factor please refer to the following link as a quick reference: http://arthritis.about.com/od/radiagnosis/a/rheumfactor.htm
But guess what? people have treated "real" diseases with similar methods as TMS treatment modalities and have recovered. I am talking cancer and tumors. The body has an incredible ability to heal itself. The late Norman Cousins healed himself from Ra, and he was totally bed ridden.
