I agree with you on not being in a hurry to resume a normal life. A sensitized nervous system can be too raw to support “normal.” Same with exercise – my feet and so sore that if I push to walk I am crippled for a day or more...and I have challenged them many times.

How often are your doing relaxation and meditation. I know people who has severe anxiety that had to meditate 4 to 6 times a day to train the nervous system.

I sent you a PM

Hi A1S,

Sorry for the late reply, I've been crazy-busy...

I should say again that I think Sarno is 100% right in that we must adopt the attitude that we are not damaged, and completely okay. I'm not avoiding heavy lifting and running stairs right now because I think I'm damaged. I think (know) that my nervous system is overs-sensitized from several years of panic, anxiety, worry and nervous breakdown.

The CNS is electro-chemical, and does not heal quickly. So, for me... if I walk, jog, light lift/stretch right now, I'm fine. If I push too hard, I get setbacks. It's not a mystery, and it's not because of repressed rage. It's because our bodies release stress chemicals constantly. These chemicals cause pains in our bodies.

When my stress chemistry is high, my knees ache like an old man. My back gets stiff, and of course, I have panic attacks.

So, I have to moderate what I do at this stage and work towards complete normalcy. Same goes for stressors, and resuming "normal living." Normal living for most of us includes tons of stress. That is no way to heal. I am having to go through my whole life and try to eliminate stressors, even if that means good ones. Rest is paramount to my recovery.

Again, I'm not 100% yet. I'm just saying what helped me. I was too much of a hard head to really absorb the message of rest and recovery, and I stayed down for a long time because of it. I'm lucky that the right people got a hold of me. I was doing the cognitive work, but that's useless if you're pounding your body with stress.

I try to do a minimum of 2 relaxation/meditations per day. I eat cleanly, and my sleep schedule is now my current focus. (I tend to push it once in a while for social reasons and that's going to stop.)

As you know, I think anxiety/TMS are the same thing. (Sarno said as much.) I think many, many people on these TMS boards are dealing with the after-effects of long-term worry, stress and anxiety... and their symptoms will disappear if they work on losing fear and giving their bodies a chance to recover.

Again, take my opinion for what it's worth. I'm still a work in progress. But I have seen progress.
