Posted - 02/03/2013 : 16:03:38 Greetings
I am new to TMS and would appreciate an objective opinion on how I arrived here.
Back in 2007 I had some long-term stress but nothing outrageous. I own my own consulting business which required a lot of travel my mother had had several strokes and we were caring for her as becoming progressively more tired and in spite of that I Up rigorous athletic training....... hard to our workouts four days a week.
So in 2007 I had a vasovagal attack followed a couple weeks later by a panic attack, which I'd not had an 40 years, and then vertigo that was not going away.
I consulted my doctor who sent me to a specialist that diagnosed me with a condition that was going to require taking medications as allergic to, surgeries and said the condition might be permanent.
This scared me so bad that I went into a hyper aroused state why walked many hours a day. None of my normal stress reduction skills worked. I will also say during the first five years of this that I had another misdiagnosis that kept me concerned and somewhat scared.
Then last summer I came down with Achilles tendinitis I thought it was because I been riding my bike so much and also doing a lot of walking. The severe agitation had come down by probably 50%.
Within two weeks in a gone to severe plantar fasciitis I could not walk. Then a month later I started getting muscle pain with any amount of exertion even small tasks, work before I could work out hard all day long.
This is now gone on seven months and just recently has gone into my hands were have so much pain it's hard even type this letter. I went to rheumatologist who did all the routine tasks and came back negative. He thought I might have fibromyalgia but was concerned about the diagnosis because everything came on so rapidly in the pain and disability is more severe than what he is normally seen.
Over the years I have done a lot of psychological work and feel pretty clear on most things. The one thing I had not accomplished was that I have a negative bias that I developed a my childhood...... so I tended to look on the symptoms with an attitude of oh no!!! I also believe that deep inside I believe I might never recover from this breakdown. I have absolutely no external stress. I have a wonderful wife, no financial problems, no children actually know living family members. My life could be a Hallmark postcard were not for my severe pain and insomnia.
My advanced degrees and connections to a lot of healthcare providers, other psychologists and people working the holistic health field have not provided me with answers or relief.
I value the experience of people on this forum and would certainly appreciate observations and feedback.

Ragesootheratio has provided the link to the whole list. I'm re-posting one key each day (Ace of the Day) so that we can reflect and discuss what each key means. There are some wonderfully supportive and insightful people here who have made very helpful comments along the way. |

Posted - 02/03/2013 : 22:02:23 I willing to bet $1 with you (that's all of my weekly allowance) that the one thing that all you symptoms had in common is: "fear".
The one thing most (if not all) people who have "cured" themself from mindbody illness is: stop fearing your symptoms.
Easier said than done, but if you can stop your fear, you will elliminate 90% of your symptoms. The rest is all conditioning.
Read the success forum and you will see.

Posted - 02/03/2013 : 16:32:52 ALL1Spirit: Your story is one that I've read before on this forum. If you havn't read it already I'd recommend Ozanich's book. His symptoms were similar to yours. I also recommend Monte's web site: http://www.runningpain.com/important_tms_updates
His ideas and insights seem to be relevant to those who have had a long struggle with TMS. Good luck!

Posted - 02/03/2013 : 16:16:18 It is of course hard to say as to how things affect people but one thing did stand out for me and it actually happened to me and was the trigger for my problems.
Literally on my 40th birthday I discovered a lump and went to the GP...the way the GP dealt with this and the fear he installed in me petrified me and I had to have a scan done privately as I was in such a mess. The scan was all clear and the lump was totally benign and normal. I remember getting the result and saying to my wife that all was well and that life could return back to normal.
....think again...
Exactly one week later I woke in the morning to dizziness, de realisation and twitching. This was the start of a 5 year nightmare of stress illness, somatisation and anxiety. Once the genie is out of the bottle the bugger does not want to get back in there believe me.
Wake me up with your amphetamine blast Take me by the collar and throw me out into the world Rock me gently & send me dreaming of something tender I was brought here to pay homage to the beat surrender
