Posted - 01/30/2013 : 17:17:51 In the spirit of ego-loosening and levity I propose this silly getting-to-know-you thread. Here are my random seven.
1. My mum and dad are my best friends. I am blessed beyond belief in this regard. My dad is a pragmatist. My mum a pagan.
2. Boomshanka. Feasting, f****** and music are the bedrock of my faith.
3. I need a lot of sleep. You wake me you die. Unless it's snowing, it's my birthday or an A list celebrity just died.
4. I am a bookslut. I inherited this (and the books) from my bibliophile parents.
5. Read to me and I'll love you forever.
6. I miss driving fast. This slo-mo tms chick persona does not jibe with rock music. I once had to attend a 'speed awareness course' at the behest of the police after confessing that the music excited me to such action.
7. One day I want to live by the sea.
What are your seven? |

Posted - 02/02/2013 : 16:35:17 Oh go on then...
1) Only having 7 things really really plays havoc with my OCD and symmetry craving.
2) I was born a somatiser, I was raised a somatiser and I will be burned a somatiser.
3) I haven't posted on here for a lengthy period but something has drawn me back.
4) I've gone from a sofa slob to a 50lb lighter hiker and endurance trail runner in the space of a year...this makes me happy.
5) I still have some SI joint dysfunction pain which I believe reduces my times...this pisses me off big style!
6) I gave my mum a copy of The GPD last summer as I was convinced she had TMS. She actually had cancer that had been overlooked by her incompetent GP. She died in October and I'm feeling much guilt.
7) I bore everybody with my Paleo lifestyle tales but neglect to tell them that I have a sneaky ciabatta roll with my Parma ham every Sunday.
Wake me up with your amphetamine blast Take me by the collar and throw me out into the world Rock me gently & send me dreaming of something tender I was brought here to pay homage to the beat surrender

Posted - 02/01/2013 : 00:36:29 Thank you Nicole, we have our ups and downs, but after nearly 36 years of marriage I still have to improve and adjust.
So 7 honest ways for Andy to improve and become happy.
1/ Reduce my anger by not getting tired and rushing, after all being retired my time is mine.
2/ Maintain my exercise routine of weight lifting and swimming. I always feel good after exercising.
3/ Have more empathy with my three children. They are all working hard, remembering how it was when I was working.
4/ Think before leaping when taking on new projects, as I tend to tackle anything that comes along, be realistic and remember I don’t have to prove anything, kill that ego and go and play.
5/ Have more fun, watch Big Bang bloopers on U-tube last thing at night.
6/ Don’t watch nasty and violent programs on TV, especially the daily news, it’s always bad and negative.
7/ Spend a whole day with my wife, just the two of us. Tomorrow we are going to the gym, shopping, lunch out for a change and perhaps go to the movies.

1/ My one most important thing to say about myself is actually my wife Sheila, for she has made me what I am today.
2/ She has put up with my issues with my past family, and my bad temper.
3/ She has seen and helped me through alcoholism. She has supported me through many bouts of unemployment.
4/ She has helped me cope with my perfectionism and OCD ways. She has for 35 years packed me a brown bag for work,
5/ She got up to see me off every day of my working life.
6/ She has given me three children and in consequence 5 grandchildren.
7/ Now she is aiding me into the transition of retirement and our last years together.
Plum, she helps me keep my ego in check, I’m a lucky man!

Posted - 01/31/2013 : 03:00:20 Thank you all. Quite a few from your lists could easily have been on mine, people-watching, seduction~dancing~wine-loving goldbug that I am. Aside from the fun, there's a generosity and inherent compassion here. I like very much the fuller sense of who you all are.
Must extend a special thanks to eric for being the only gentleman to weigh in (thus far) with a superb list. |

Posted - 01/30/2013 : 22:27:33 Ok, love. But just because you asked...
1) My dad is dead 13 years, yet I'm still playing out the damage that he left off. I'm getting a bit clearer though, bit by bit, as I watch the film. 2) I have learned a beautiful thing about parenting: It's not that you love one better than the other, It's that you love them so vehemently differently, and it changes the person you are in each interaction. And THEN, you love them differently at the moment. 3) I don't care about you, anymore. 4) I can't believe another human being can completely understand me. Yet, she does. 5) Physical pain is the most fascinating phenomenon in life, and once you can harness it, in many ways you are free. 6) In the same fashion as above, this power over pain creates new flaws. However "painful," at least they are yours. 7) I wish there were more hours, more time, more freedom...more autonomy. Yet, I remind myself, at what cost?
