Hi all

Somebody had asked questions on eft a while back. I just got an e mail today with a fantastic link to a video of Nick Ortner and Louise Hay. Well worth a watch for anyone interested in trying this.

In my understanding, the Sedona Method is more verbal/ cognitive (kind of like Byron Katie's "Work," if you're familiar with that at all). It has to do with bringing up the emotion, then asking yourself if you're really ready to let it go. Here is an article: http://www.personality-blog.com/article/424/the-sedona-method®-four-questions-that-make-a-change

This is a gross oversimplification, of course, as the Sedona Method is a whole methodology and works for thousands of people. Maybe check it out to see if it's something that could work for you!

On the other hand, EFT is more "energy work," which is based on acupuncture meridians. It works by having you call up the emotion, than having you tap the meridians/ energy points so that you can release the energetic charge surrounding that emotion.

So, mental work vs. energetic work, I think is the answer to the question you had. But again, this is attempting to summarize two whole methodologies, so definitely look into each to see if you respond to either (or both!).

But I completely agree with lmcox, don't get obsessed with it. Concentrate on doing the psychological work as described by Dave, ace1, and so many others.

Nice link alix. Thanks for sharing.

Anyone who knows how is the EFT tapping different from Sedona, if it has any better releasing techniques when compared with EFT?

Here is a link with video that talks about EFT combined with Sedona.

I guess SteveO mentioned about these methods. Just wanted to know which is best and easy for practicing, and let the emotions go.

Imcox, I can't thank you enough for the information and the link. I thought of learning to do it myself, but could never find any books or self-help articles about it. I did learn how to do Chakra clearing meditations, but it did not have quite the same effect.

Pspa123 - yes, I did it with a practitioner only. Her name was Heather Rose. She was quite well known in California at one time. I met her in 2007 when she came to Panama for more of a challenge.

and did not have a prior belief in it.

Amazingly, right from the start, it helped me a lot. What it felt like to me was that all the negative energy had left my body and mind. But of course, the negative energy would build up again. It also had a kind of endorphin effect, similar to acupuncture without the needles. I felt quite at peace most of the time I had it. However, it was temporary and obviously not a fix of the root cause of my issues. The effect lasted for about a year to a year and a half after I stopped. I would probably do it again if I have the opportunity.

So is this something you did only with a practitioner? I assume so because you say you would do it again "if you had the opportunity." Did you ever try it on your own?

That's awesome that you felt a negative energy release when you did EFT!

You actually can teach it to yourself and use it every day! The founder of it (Gary Craig) has a free tutorial right here: http://www.emofree.com

He also has a YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/emofree

And another guy I know has a ton of EFT videos at: http://www.youtube.com/user/eftwizard

I have studied/ practiced EFT for about eight years now, and I find it's helpful in limited amounts, but if you get too into it, it can definitely take the place of, say, pain medication, anxiety medication, or other "crutches." We're trying to eliminate problems in the body by calling them out, which is sort of what EFT does, but it can also be a slippery slope because you have to keep saying "Even though I have this <problem X>," which can validate the problem and make it sticker.

For my money, Carol Look is the best EFT practitioner I have ever seen. http://carollookeft.com, or I guess look on YouTube to see if she has any free stuff. I also have several other names of good practitioners if anyone would like those. I have no affiliation whatsoever with Carol Look, by the way.

Thanks Catmac. If it's not an imposition I'm curious if you noticed less pain afterwards, or if you felt emotional issues resolved, or how (at a general level, not prying) you felt it helped you. Just as context I did it once and probably approached it with the wrong mindset as I couldn't get past that it felt, for lack of a better word, goofy. But it was at a time I was trying all sorts of stuff most of which really was nonsense and was kinda disillusioned by it all.

Did you DO it only twice or did it take you two sessions to learn to do it on your own? Thanks for clarifying.

Hi Pspa

Sorry I meant I only went for two sessions. The therapist gave me the tapping sequence and phrases to repeat at home when I felt I needed them, but to be completely honest I've rarely used them.

Can give you more info if you need it.

Cheers

I know there is a lot of talk about eft being a placebo effect etc, but it was a part of my recovery along with Dr Sarno and Steve O's book. I found it really helpful and only two sessions were required so it wasn't at all costly. Hope this helps you chickenbone

thanks again

Thank-you for posting these, Catmac and Dr. James. I intend to look at them when I can get a stable internet connection. I live in Panama and don't like it here right now - that is part of the reason for my problems.

I saw a very good energy healer for about a year. I only tried it because nothing else seemed to be working. This helped me tremendously. I have always been curious why it worked, it definitely did work on me. I always need to know why. I would like to see another one, but there are no good ones here. The one here was only here temporarily.

thanks for that catmac. Its also worth listening to the following podcast about the scientific status of EFT and other 'energy psychologies'. They are perhaps too easily dismissed, however, there is quite a lot of evidence in their favour, as you will hear on the Shrink Rap Radio podcast if you choose to listen.
