I am having trouble coming up with a good list. I read somewhere you should not say things that are untrue like, "I am free of all pain" when you are in pain because this causes stress to your unconscious. Should I be saying affirmations about my past, my present, who I want to be? Any examples would be helpful, thanks much!!!

I was delighted to get a better understanding of affirmations from Wiki. To make it readable I edited it.

Affirmations:

Refers primarily to the practice of positive thinking.

More specifically, an affirmation is a carefully formatted statement that should be repeated to one's self and written down frequently.

For an affirmation to be effective, it needs to be present tense, positive, personal and specific.

What I learned was:

I need to write them out. I have been hypercritically advising others to write them out, but rarely do so myself!

I did not know about the PRESENT tense.

I don't really care for affirmations. I just talk to myself like I was talking to another person -- out loud too.

Now Shawn, you have to go to this meeting and there is no getting out of it. How do you feel about this meeting and the people who will be present? Oh really!!!! And why is it you feel that way? Is that right? Has that got anything to do that happened in the past? Yes? Well, let's talk about that. And on and on and on.

It's more simple than what's on that page. Just use affirmations in th present tense to be calm and relaxed in situations were you weren't. That's all. You just have to be consistent. The best book and easiest to read is mind power into the 21st century. I think it's only $8 on amazon. I think the two I listed before are pretty much universal. One word affirmations are good too, like just "relaxed". Good luck

Thanks Shawn. I'm sure I can find something here to suit my present situations, I've made a link.
