They played a game where the staff was to say what was most annoying about Howard with a voice modulator that gave the staff member anonymity. Howard then had to guess who it was.

One of the staff said it was annoying that Howard thinks back pain is all on your head.

Howard went on to say he doesn't know everything, but if there was one thing that changed his life more than anything it was discovering "Sarno."

It went on for a good ten minutes too, he recommended anyone with chronic physical pain to read and give it a chance. The topic then carried over to the "wrap up show."

If you have satellite radio try to catch the replay, or perhaps someone will post the clip on the Internet at some point. He went on to say Sarno should get the Nobel peace prize and more. Great stuff.

FYI, I am fairly certain that Howard Stern is the patient Dr. Sarno describes in Healing Back Pain who made the connection between his OCD and back pain.

He has always been a supporter of Dr. Sarno. The dispute from his staff member (the annoying Scott DePace, for those familiar with his show) is a great illustration of how some people will never be able to accept TMS. Such strongly opinionated people just cannot allow themselves to believe that their mind could be the source of physical pain. Their pride and ego will forever block their acceptance of TMS. Those who also have the personality traits that are typical for TMS are likely to experience psychogenic symptoms for their entire life and undergo unnecessary treatments.

You're right Bryan, celebrities are key.

So I heard the replay yesterday, and spoke what Howard Stern said into my iphone as best I could, heres a summary:

"I want to say something to my audience.....I don't pretend to know everything, I don't know a lot....But, the biggest reveal, the biggest revelation of my life was a guy named Dr. John Sarno."
"He is now retired, but God I hope the world never loses this man."
"If you do one thing for the rest of your life, read his books. I can't tell you what this man has done for me.'
"I'm telling my audience, the medical community is ensconsed with the back pain industry."
"If everyone approached back pain the way Dr. John Sarno does you would do away with the pills, the operations, etc"
"The back pain is real, but the cause is something other than what we were led to believe. Do whatever you want, but it kills me to see someone, especially a loved one going in for an operation that will only make them worse."

When challanged by an employee that he knew of friends that had back surgery and are better Stern replied "and they will get worse, just wait."

When challanged about true conditions, Stern said 1% of back pain is from real conditions which are very rare.

Very cool. Such an unlikely ally. But, Stern has been championing Sarno for a long time now. Wish a few more celebs would get on board and help spread the word.
