I'm back. After over a year. At least I know this forum has helped me in the past. However, it seems that TMS always arises in a new way that is more and more challenging for me to get past.

I am currently dealing with obsessive thoughts and anxiety. I hate anxiety because it is so difficult to live in the present and enjoy what's going on right in front of you. I'm not in pain (probably because I have trained my mind on how to recognize when obvious pain is TMS and not), but I am having difficulty getting rid of the obsessive thoughts.

A little history...I had some light fillings on some of my front teeth over a year ago. I was not happy with this from the beginning, and my teeth were not bothering me. I did get a second opinion which confirmed that I should get fillings. I did not like the idea of the dental work because I have learned that this eventually leads to more dental work.
Since I got this work performed, I have had a constant sensation in one of my teeth, which I believe is TMS because it changes and moves even when I am not eating or drinking. I actually got to a period when it wasn't bothering me because I had convinced myself it was TMS, but then I had a crown brake. The crown brought attention back to my mouth and all I can think about is my fear of losing the tooth, and I feel every sensation once again which perpetuates my fear that the tooth is weak.

The point is I am scared of a future event...losing a front tooth and have done all kinds of research on what my options are when this happens. So even though I feel strongly that the sensations I am feeling are TMS, I have a strong desire to increase my dental hygiene to make sure I don't lose the tooth, or keep the filling as long as possible. While I feel what I am doing is important to the health of my tooth, how can I perform the necessary dental hygiene and not keep on perpetuating TMS, anxiety, and obsessive thoughts? How do I find a balance?

Please help, I fear that I am developing a routine which may lead to OCD if I don't get a good balance.

I thought about it. I came to the conclusion that I need to stop with the additional hygiene right now, if it is causing me to focus on the discomfort and increasing my anxiety.

I was reading the mind body syndrome last night by Dr. Sarno, and I noticed that he told his patients to stop there treatments to aid in their recovery. I think for now, I will have to stop doing what is causing me to focus on my mouth. Maybe when mentally I get things under control, I can start back for my overall wellbeing.

but probably the main thing I did was to just stop focusing on the discomfort. It eventually went away after four months of applying this method.
