Why does my pain go away when i am in the hammock?
when i was a child i used to sleep in one hammock for hours (in the afternoon after school)until a mango dropped of the tree and hit me ,or my little brother woke me up,but what makes my pain go away when i am on it now? ej this weekend i had te opportunity to be in my hammock longer because the weather has been incredible and because we had a cookout.
But...i can't be all day in the patio !
My pain is so ridiculous.
In my case i have the opposite as Mala,i forget about my pain when i am surrounded by family or having fun,at least the pain is less.

I'll have to try the hammock! The pain goes away when I'm with friends and having fun, but certain friends set it off. Like my friends who are Dr.s (LOL). I'm not kidding!

I feel careless, like a child when I'm in the hammock, but when i was a child i never felt that way ,in fact i slept outside in tHe hammock because tHe weather in my origin country is all year around 90's ,waking up was sad because it was almost dinner time and the fighting betweeny parents was about to start.,I hated my dad he always came home drunk,I really hated being there with them. But that's in the past ,I love them so much,we're so close now.

Lara, I think there must be some extra attention you're paying to emotions when you're in the hammock. But in a different way than when you're usually trying to combat your pain. Perhaps you're remembering simpler times...easier times...you're thinking about your childhood and remembering when things were good...perhaps the good emotions are enough of a distraction from other repressed emotions that your mind doesn't see the need to try to distract with pain. It would seem that if that's the case, your thoughts while on the hammock...the sense of relaxation or SOMETHING about the whole scenario must be powerful enough that your mind feels ok to relax. Like Andy said...you should concentrate on what's going on there...think about how you feel in the hammock. Maybe you're on to something that will help you to fully recover!

Hi Lara,

I’m thinking these days that TMS has no standard set of rules; It plays out differently in each of us, and can change its methods in a blink. I read that TMS pain originates in the sub-conscious, it is covert we are not supposed to understand it. Your TMS has known you since you were a child, it only knows YOU. It could have been the opposite of this, since you could have been afraid of sleeping outside for fear of flying Mangos. Yes it is ridiculous.

By knowing your pain goes away when you are in a hammock you understand it, that’s all that matters. I would ponder this point as much as possible, this is a mini success storey. Well done your thinking physiologically.

Hammocks are great. It's almost like relaxation by traction. I've been thinking about getting one for my back porch. My guess is simply that your pain goes away because it's taking almost all effort away from your muscles. It's also an association to happier times.

Enjoy.
