Posted - 05/16/2012 : 22:11:41 I'm in the midst of a move, this is a huge trigger, lots of memories going through old pictures and just the general stress of it all. A few weeks ago I started developing an odd tickling sensation in my hips that is driving me mad, it is worse than the pain, it is so distracting. My therapist and tms doc tell me it's tms based on the stress of the move. But just recently I stopped my ultram meds cold turkey and my research shows that withdrawal from ultram can cause this and many other symptoms. Insomnia, anxiety, trouble breathing all of which just started at the same time. I went back on the ultram and I will continue to ween per my doc. I've been on the drug for 6-7 years or so.
Sound like tms or withdrawals? |

Posted - 05/17/2012 : 12:25:31 These new symptoms came on very abruptly and when I quit cold turkey the fentanyl patch I had a similar reaction. I was taking 300mg of Ultram, then I was tapered down to 200mg and then down to 100mg.
I felt brave and thought, hey I can stop them now. My first reaction to the changes were the withdrawal symptoms, I researched after they started and noticed several I was experiencing were also noted as potential side effects for stopping the med cold turkey. Ultram is a synthetic opiate and very addictive to the body, I still cant rule out my friend TMS but I decided to taper down to 50mg and then to 25mg under my doctors recommendations. |

Posted - 05/17/2012 : 08:00:52 Do your therapist and TMS doc know you quit the drug cold turkey?
It sounds like a TMS manifestation to me, but I know nothing of the drug. Did you do your withdrawal research before or after you quit taking it? I have personally found that I am quite prone to the "power of suggestion" in that if someone tells me that a certain symptom is cause for concern, I may very well show that symptom, depending on the circumstances. For example, when I was younger, my younger brother got into some trouble with some older boys...this was around high school. I intervened and told them to leave him alone. They later jumped me as a group and pounded the crap out of me. It hurt, but mostly pissed me off. BUT, my mom said "tell me if you feel nauseated, it could be a sign of a concussion." Before that, I was fine, but within minutes of the suggestion that I could have a concussion, I felt very sick she had to take me to make sure I didn't have a concussion.
Plus, those other side effects also sound like they could be manifestations of TMS. Makes me wonder how many people on drug trials suffer TMS...
