Posted - 05/07/2012 : 19:07:53 Hi Folks, I have studied Sarno for some time and have had pain in the hip. Doc says it's slight arthritis. It's not always there so I figure TMS. Recently during a great stress time, I have acquired pain in my inside ankle, what I might call "shin splint in the ankle". Not always there, but when my hip feels fine, my ankle feels pain, when my hip hurts just a little, ankle feels fine. Figure both are TMS. Anyone out there ever have an ankle act up? Just wish to know. Thanks for any feed back. |

Posted - 05/16/2012 : 21:07:02 SteveO, I read that you did a nice bit of work involving TMS. Sounds interesting. May I know the name of the book? I've read some of your comments and find them really interesting. I'd like to add it to the Sarno books that I've read. It sound like it could be of help. Thanks for being here. MichaelB |

Posted - 05/13/2012 : 21:45:30 "Although it is less common, swelling of the knee may accompany tendonitis." MBP, pg. 99.
I had swelling that was TMS, and Dr. Sopher told me he often had swelling with TMS, and his patients had swelling with TMS. Swelling is a part of the mindbody process and Dr. Sarno knows it is.
I did the same thing that Art did. When my foot or arm would swell I just ran or used that arm and it went away. Resting tennis elbows can actually prolong the pain. The idea is to do what Art described, "I'd been resting it and it only got worse...more swelling every day. I finally said screw it and started running. Just a few hundred yards the first day, then a few hundred more the next. Within a week I was fine."
When I rested, my pain got worse. This of course is not from an injury, but a Phase-2 TMS related event.
I think a big problem is how people view... "thinking psychologically."
TMS can be attacked from both ends, and even the word attacked can be deleterious, as I discovered the painful way.

Posted - 05/13/2012 : 19:53:14 Symptoms that appear during stressful episodes are very likely TMS. Even things that common sense would argue are real. For example I had an episode of knee pain along with substantial swelling. It's my understanding that Sarno does not believe swelling can be TMS (anyone know differently?), but the more I thought about it the more I suspected it was indeed psychosomatic. I'd been resting it and it only got worse...more swelling every day. I finally said screw it and started running. Just a few hundred yards the first day, then a few hundred more the next. Within a week I was fine.
Folks, if you're prone to TMS and under stress and are having symptoms the bottom line is it's often to very often to almost always TMS. it just is. |

Posted - 05/11/2012 : 22:09:06 Oh SteveO I am glad you responded! I thought it might be too different. I am going get into the Sarno habit of realizing this is TMS. I teach dance and tonight went dancing and could not continue. Saw a foot dr several days ago. He says it's inflammation that could be caused by stress. He is trying several things that are less invasive. I still think it is TMS. The interesting thing is I started with hip pain and when the ankle is good the hip hurts and vis versa. I am glad that I found this forum and thank you. I hope to get some help here to convince my inner mind that this TMS. Thanks again for responding.

Posted - 05/10/2012 : 11:51:10 MichaelB it sure sounds like the symptom imperative and TMS. I had that same sequence of events, ankle to hip to knee to ankle. It was so much fun.

Posted - 05/09/2012 : 12:03:54 Without a doubt it's TMS, if it's not my hips, it's my knees, if not my knees, my butt, sciatica/pisiformis, it could be all 3 like it is now, I'm moving so this is a huge trigger for me. I only think psychologically when I feel pain. |
