I am sorry I have been away for a bit. I will do my best to post as often as I can. I thought the group would be interested in the latest research out of Carnegie Mellon University on how stress causes physical illness:

This is yet another example of how we are really starting to understand the science of stress and the mind-body connection.

Posted - 04/16/2012 : 18:43:30 Thanks Dr. Z. for this information. I know that all my issues are stess related. They all started with massive amounts of stress: hypoglycemia (probably due to adrenal issues), anxiety (self explanatory), and my aching/tingling feet/legs. I am working hard on this last one, as I believe it is TMS. I still have a lot to learn, and work on. But I have hope to return to be my old laid back self. Thanks for supporting this forum. Your input is very valuable!

Great question....and if I had the answer, I would probably win a Nobel Prize :) :) :)
I think the key for all of us - TMS or not - is to monitor our stress levels and make sure we are doing all we can to live a life that is as fulfilling and meaningful as possible, with some sense of control.
Not an easy thing to do in today's world....

These articles are great, but they are lacking in what we all want to know..what do they suggest as the remedy? I know the TMS approach but the stress approach is a bit different.

Posted - 04/10/2012 : 22:43:30 Interesting article. The word "inflammation" really grabbed my attention. I've been battling with lung and sinus inflammation and postnasal drip for over three years and been stuck on Prednisone for a year and a half. I was convinced TMS caused these symptoms, but unlike my physical pains which went away after following Dr. Sarno's program, this inflammation has shown little response to all the reading, mind-searching and stress-reducing I've been doing. I've had chronic anxiety most of my adult life, so now I understand better that it might have caused my autoimmune system to go out of whack. I also realize that the approach to resolving this stress-induced inflammation might be different from the approach to the typical TMS pain. |
