Posted - 03/24/2012 : 19:42:27 Just wanted to get some other thoughts about this. In Dr. Schubiner's workbook, there's a meditation CD. I use this every day. There's a part in one of the meditations that talks about visualizing a sea that is calm or very small waves. I can visualize the calm sea but, my sky is either at night or a dark stormy sky. I try to imagine a clear sunny day but, the dark sky always creeps in. Am I trying too hard here or trying to be too perfect? Any suggestions?

Posted - 03/26/2012 : 07:14:30 Speaking of mindfulness/meditation, I just finished "The Mindful Path Through Worry And Rumination" by Sameet M. Kumar and it is truly an excellent resource! I'm doing the counting meditation while walking in the early hours each morning. I't helping me be more present-based all day long and to appreciate the little things of beauty one encounters in everyday life and to focus less on sciatica and headaches. It also helps greatly with interrupting rumination. |

Posted - 03/25/2012 : 15:15:08 I too tried Dr. Schubiner's meditation CD. I do not know what medition is, the nearest I've get to it is when I do Yoga stretching. I think it is the breathing that helps you relax. In all honesty I did not try very hard, as our cat Tessa came in for a fuzz and I got distracted. This was quite relaxing anyway. I love Tessa

Posted - 03/25/2012 : 08:25:04 I think you may be trying too hard. Meditation is not easy nor does it come quickly. Like most skills it takes time and practice. Try short burst of 5 minutes maybe a few times a day and build it up from there. I agree with the others that what you visualise doesn't have to be perfect, in fact it won't be & the more you strive for perfection the more frustrated you will get which defeats the whole purpose of meditating.
Maybe you could visualize something different if the sky is bothering you too much. The sea & sky is just one of many examples. Choose something you are comfortable with. I remember when I first started every little bit of noise would disturb be so I started focusing on the noises around me . Soon I was able to get past the noise . Like Darko my main focus is the breath.

Posted - 03/25/2012 : 05:53:28 I focus on feeling the breath in and out of my nose, I do this morning and night. There are times when I go for a week of rubbish thoughts while meditating......just stick with it, stay focused and be allowing. This takes a long time to master, so stop trying to get it right....just do the BEST you can....whatever that looks like

Let the dark sky flow past and observe. How do you know that you that it is not night, or that a storm is not on the horizon, yet the sea is still calm? Is it supposed to be sunny? Is that too perfect?
It does not matter. Let the dark skies come and let them go. What will happen will happen.
