Posted - 03/12/2012 : 09:17:37 I am sad to say that I recently received word from one of Dr. Sarno's most trusted colleagues that Dr. Sarno will be retiring. His last day of seeing patients will be April 25, 2012. While this is very sad news, it is a testament to his incredible dedication to his patients that he has continued to practice until the age of 88.
Words can in no way describe the gratitude that we feel toward Dr. Sarno. As someone who suffered from chronic pain and was able to regain my life through Dr. Sarno's discoveries, I am just one of millions who know first hand the lasting impact his life's work has had on so many people. He has provided us with knowledge that, like penicillin, helped us regain our lives back. While Dr. Sarno will no longer be seeing patients, his ideas, through both his four books and the practitioners who trained under him, will continue to spread and be of help to individuals across the globe.
Potential new patients will be referred to Ira Rashbaum, MD, an attending physiatrist at the NYU-Langone Medical Center. Dr. Rashbaum was a contributor to "The Divided Mind" and has worked closely with Dr. Sarno over the years.
As a way to pay homage to Dr. Sarno, several people whose lives he transformed have been developing a collection of images and thank you messages in a leather bound photo book to present to Dr. Sarno as a retirement gift from the entire TMS Community. Our goal is to have the TMS Community show Dr. Sarno our deepest thanks and appreciation for all that he has done for us. The project is formally called, Thank You Dr. Sarno: A collection of personal messages about how your life's work has changed our lives.
Two of Dr. Sarno's most trusted psychologists, Dr. Fran Sommer Anderson and Dr. Eric Sherman, have graciously agreed to deliver the book to Dr. Sarno, on behalf of the entire TMS Community, on or around April 25. The idea is to create a tangible object Dr. Sarno, and his grandchildren, can hold in their hands and see just how many lives he touched. The Thank You, Dr. Sarno project has been under development for about six months now, but when we recently heard of Dr. Sarno's impending retirement, it was decided that delivering the gift on his last day would make a wonderful and fitting retirement gift and tribute.
Contributions for this project can be sent to thankyoudrsarno@tmswiki.org . Contributions should consist of a personal image and/or a thank you message. (No financial contributions will be required as the project is already fully funded.) All contributions will also be placed on a web page, so we can have a powerful and special public testimonial to all of the lives he has changed. For more information about the project please visit www.thankyoudrsarno.org and Participating in the Thank You Project. These pages include further instructions on how to make a submission and other contributions that you can use as an example. If you send a photo, we encourage you to send a high resolution file, ideally one megabyte or larger. (Minimum recommended file size is 1800x1800 or 3 megapixels.)
This is a great opportunity to give back to Dr. Sarno, who has given us all so much. Dr. Sarno's last day seeing patients will be a sad one. Hopefully, this gift will let him know how incredibly meaningful and beloved his work has been. We wish him a long and wonderful retirement. He has most definitely earned it!
Sincerely, Forest

Send your thank you and quite procrastinating. It doesn't have to be perfect. Sarno will be very very touched.
56 thank you notes so far. Let's get a few more.

Posted - 04/05/2012 : 11:02:28 Yes, I thought he was going to do this forever! I certainly hope he is okay. He had helped my life so much and made me understand how my mind can hold me hostage or set me free and the modality to control these things.

Posted - 03/15/2012 : 22:36:04 Hey Folks!
Keep the contributions coming in! If you have any reach at all with anyone who has been healed by following the TMS approach, let them know about this. The "Thank You Book" needs to be as THICK as possible with pages and pages of entries when Dr. Sarno receives it. Imagine what an impact that will have when he receives it and even more when he reads it and reflects back on his life's work. That can only happen if you contribute and if you spread the word.
Thanks!

Posted - 03/13/2012 : 13:25:18 One thing I want to make SURE of is that other doctors other than the ones we know of like (Schubiner and others) are aware of the TMS studies. We dont want Sarno and his findings to be forgotten. He has been ridiculed by some members of the medical community but at the same time he has helped others so we DO want to show our appreciation. Maybe when some of us have time we can alert other doctors about Sarno and keep the tradition going.

Me, too. I know that he has faced a lot of hostility from mainstream medicine over his many years of treating TMS, and I think that he very much deserves to finish up on a positive note.
We've had a very productive day today in terms of making something for he and his family to treasure. We're already up to 11 contributions. Please keep them coming! Please to remember everything that Dr. Sarno has done for you and take a moment to write him a short note to be included in a leather-bound book and delivered by two of his closest colleagues. If you have a photo, you can send it to thankyoudrsarno@tmswiki.org. If not, even if you just post your testimonial in this thread, I'll make sure it gets in. |

Posted - 03/12/2012 : 10:02:54 I very much hope that nothing bad has happened to him. While it is possible that something could have happened, I want to respect his privacy, so I prefer to simply hope for the best. I do know that he timed his retirement to coincide with the demolition of the Rusk Institute building where his office has been located for the entirety of his long career.
And he is 88. He may be the biggest goodist of them all, but he certainly deserves a break. |

Posted - 03/12/2012 : 09:55:47 Forest do you know if something happened to him, just last year he said he would never retire, that he would have to be "carried out of there" to stop doing this. Its only about just a month from now that which is quick notice, usually he works up till the summer and takes the summer off. |
