Hey everyone! (it is my first post)

I am what you would call a textbook example for TMS and I will not go into the details too much (perfectionist, goodist, lot of daily stress, and so on) since it has been discussed here a lot.

However, I have had some big trouble with getting my mind in the "right shape" for curing TMS. I am trying now for about 1.5 months and I experienced a lot of symptom movement with my RSI ever since. Moreover, for the first time in years my back and neck are acting up.
My big big proplem are two spots, one on each hand, which are swollen a bit. MRI said edema and the diagnosis was tendinitis and tendomyositis. It was recommended to not move the hands at all and (so the doctor said), it might go away in a couple of months. I did not rest them and the pain comes and goes independent of the swollen spots. The pain actually moves around a lot in that area no matter if I work out or not.

Further, I got two tennis elbows, also saying mild edema, thus, mild tennis elbow. The pain however is unbearable sometimes.

Is this TMS or not or has anyone else with RSI ever gotten similar MRI related diagnosis?

I know that tennis elbow and RSI are TMS, but I am having a hard time finding information about how a certain diagnosis, with physical evidence, can still be TMS.

Therefore, my brain plays very bad tricks on me, going back and forth in between accepting TMS and then doubting it again. Interestingly, ones my brain is back on the track of thinking 'oh no, I need to rest, I am making things worse, I am ruining myself here', I get very bad anxiety attacks (never had those before). It takes me days of getting out of thinking about the pain (which makes it worse) and getting back into normal conversations and a normal daily life.

I hope somone can give me some information and any help is greatly appreciated!

Benjamin

Hey,

thank you so much for your comments! I will send you those chocloates even though I might feel bad about causing edema to you :)

I am completely pain free in my wrists right now, after working out for about an hour, even though there is swelling. So I guess whatever is swollen there, is not causing the pain.

A thought on edemas and other minor structural abnormailites: mild oxygen reduction makes any tissue automatically more vulnerable to any kind of infection/inflammation. Why? Oxygen is needed to produce energy in the cell (ATP). Any reparing process/counter-infection process is dependent on this energy source. In my opinion, if oxygen flow is reduced for a certain amount of time, it is very likely to develop serious (non TMS related) symptoms. For example: you have TMS, oxygen flow is reduced in a certain tissue, say your feet. You work out greatly and slightly tear a tendon.
Usually this should be no problem for your body. However, oxygen reduction greatly affects the repairing process. Moreover, waste products accumulate in the cells. Unless you cure your TMS (or shift TMS to another body part), it is very hard for the body to repair itself!
Unluckily, I have not found much about this in the literature, other than the serious consequences of ischemia. I knwo that I am contradicting Sarno's theory to some extend. Nevertheless, Sarno says that TMS treatment has or might have positive results on the treatment of cancer. Cancer is generated due to DNA mutations. DNA mutations are prevented by repairing mechanisms and control mechanisms (e.g. during DNA replication). Even if oxygen reduction is not the cause for a certain DNA mutation, it is very unlikely that it has nothing to do with it at all. Basically you can stretch this to any other TMS related disease (e.g. RA and gastritis)
Anyone else supporting this theory?

Hi Benjamin,

Sure sounds like TMS, but after all this is the TMS board and what would one expect to hear here? Brilliant doc you have there "Don't move your hands for a few months," that begs the question how exactly are you supposed to wipe your butt, get a bidet? Maybe he can write you an RX for one. Butt, that gets him off the hook and you won't be suing him for malpractice and he won't get TMS.

Idea #1: Search here is literally your friend. It's free and you will find pages and pages on your body parts, the edema maybe not so much. This will cost you nothing.

Idea #2: See TMS doctor for another opinion. See my sig for TMS doctors below. Misdiagnosis of psychosomatic/TMS is the hallmark of modern medicine.

Idea #3: Keep reading, listening to and watching TMS materials. There's lots of books, etc. and Utube videos.

It sure sounds like TMS but I'm no doctor, I only slept at a Holiday Inn Express a year or two ago--BTW those cinnamon buns they have are really good and I think they helped cure MY tennis elbow but then I got temporary edema around my waistline.

Good luck and send me a box of See's chocolates for all this free advice, that'a how I treat my tennis elbow.

Cheers,
tt
