Deciding whether or not we have a real medical condition, and getting to that point of acceptance is very difficult.

I have recently had my annual physical that has lasted over three visits to my GP. Xrays were done on my neck, and I found that I have reversal of the lordotic neck curve (kink in the neck). At my first visit my doctor said this was due to a muscle spasm pulling the neck from its normal position. This spasm is a very hard lump at all times, I can massage it with soap or oil and it loosens up a little. I’ve had this lump, I nickname it “Charlie” after charlie horse for possibly ten years, and it is my main area of pain, in addition to crunching and clicking when my head turns. My doctor played this down, he said this was involuntary and not a real problem. We ruled out pinched nerves, bone spurs, and he stated my arthritis was minor.

My Xrays bothered me so much I saw him again and requested a second explanation and review. He seemed very thorough in his explanation, and repeated his original statement, adding that he’d seen a lot worse and this condition could be reversed. He finally took me to his office where he showed me a blog by Dr Chris Chapman, a chiropractor. “Reversal of the Neck Curve” (third blog down page)

I saw clearly “Before and After Restoration” of the curve, and felt very comforted by this.

I was further comforted when I gave him information on Dr.Sarno, Dr.Schubiner and TMS, he was interested enough to go and check out their websites. I then stated I was on the TMS program, and since he was my doctor he needed to know. He was impressed there were other doctors involved and that I had not spent any money. He was encouraging, and I think we may have the beginning of a convert!

On my second tour of duty on a TMS program, I notice my symptoms and mindset are indeed very different to that of success in the year 2000.

In 2000 my sciatica back was fixed while jogging aggressively through the pain. The next day my pain dissipated by 90% to a low level of bothersome over the next few weeks. At that time I had just walked off a lucrative job in a huff and was under tremendous stress. Later on that year I took up windsurfing and kayaking during the summers, and do so until this day.

So all is rosy? No, I think my TMS moved house and jumped to my present Charlie-neck issues. At first it was a quiet resident, but over 12 years it has become the loudest neighbor in town, partying all day and night, as the pain is chronic(ongoing).

Different pain is also coupled with different causes, as I am finding out that deep resentment and hate for my poisonous family in England might be the root cause of my stress, even though my parents have passed, I still have to deal with two siblings.

I am pretty well there with accepting the diagnoses, I have TMS fair and square. I recently filled out Dr. Schubiner’s questionnaire to the point of tears of remorse; I only got half way and had to stop. This is a good indicator of where most of my stress originates, and It’s a shock to me.

So I have ordered Schubie’s book today and will start from the beginning, so I’m really a new member.
Thanks for reading.

Andy
