Posted - 02/27/2012 : 11:43:34 I've been searching without success on this site for a similar experience with pins and needles and aching in my right hand and arm. I've isolated (I think) the problem to the right side of my neck and trap muscle which I think is a prime area for oxygen deprivation, but it doesn't seem to get better. I went to a chiro, who tried to help but started to talk about x rays and MRI's so I left. It seems to be at it's worst when I'm driving. Could be body positioning or road rage? Trying to think psychological, but having doubts. Looking for inspiration and suggestions.

Good choice. If your regular doc has cleared you of a serious condition you can proceed to treat as TMS.
Could be body positioning or road rage?
Nope, its a conditioned response.

When I had LBP years ago, my back would tighten up when I started getting ready (at home) to go to work.
Last year I would get sinus/face pain when commuting about half way to my work destination.
Its a conditioned response. Your unconscious mind is picking up from your conscious mind where you are going. You can try to figure out is it your detination, the mere fact of driving, gasoline prices, what you are listening to on the radio, what are you thinking/OCDing about in your mind, while you are driving.
In doing your TMS daily work (see Sarno's books), take some quiet time to figure out what might be going on in your head when you are driving. Make a list, journal on the topics you think might be affecting you.

Posted - 02/27/2012 : 12:30:03 I'm answering because I have this weird pain in my left wrist that I get only when I commute. I don't get it when driving the family to and fro on the weekend - only during my morning and afternoon commute and only in the left wrist. I've had it for years and always just drove with my right hand and put my left hand in my lap so it wouldn't bother me. I learned about TMS back in October because of my tension headaches and neck pain. I've got a whole lot of relief and feeling way better. A few weeks ago it occurred to me that maybe this wrist thing during my commute was also TMS. So, I treated it as such. I now drive with both hands and the pain is great diminished. It is so strange how the mind-body connection works. Amazes me everyday. |
