I bite down on a bone fragment today in a restaurant. I immediately started worrying about potential injury. Nothing cracked in my tooth, thank God..but I recall a few years back biting on an olive pit with a different tooth and it took months to heal..This particular tooth occasionally is sensitive to sweet..but then the pain just goes away..This biting incident happened earlier today,,12 hrs ago..It's 2AM and I cannot sleep..I think I bruised the tooth..a real injury perhaps..What I am posting here about is making sure I don't let this turn into full blown TMS. I am under enormous stress/pressure again. I wrote last April about my brother's horrific death and how 2 of my 3 dogs died after him. Then 5 months ago I moved from LV to CO to try to start a new life. Now I am moving again because there is no work for me in my art or music here in Northern Co. or in Denver. I am moving to Ohio on Friday. I barely fit everything in the re lo cube and needless to say, I am stressed out. I am driving there leaving Friday w/ a friend and my wolf dog. I chose Ohio instead of NJ because they have less of a tick/lyme disease issue in dogs..Kaya comes first. ON a positive note, I have several auditions for wedding bands set up..lots of work there..I don't need this tooth issue on top of everything else..Has anyone ever had something like this happen and it was just TMS?
Thanks for listening,
Karen

Dear Singer Artist,

In answer to your question, YES, all the time! I'm a careful, slow eater anyway, but if I hit a pip or bone, I think I'm going to faint with the anxiety of it all, and am terrified to probe the place with my tongue to see what damage there is... I also get recurrent tooth pain, or rather 'tooth pain', in a couple of places. When you think about it, there are so many nerves and ligaments and complex structures in our mouths, they're bound to get a bit irritated sometimes, just as a normal part of wear and tear and activity (I've been worrying about a particular tooth on and off for years, and one day my dentist just said casually 'Oh yeah, there's a big nerve that loops under there'. Why didn't he tell me this beautiful nocebo sooner?!) But it's a huge TMS spot for me. Huge. And like you, it doesn't help that I did actually once injure a tooth while eating.

Also, if you're anxious, you're probably more prone to tooth grinding at night - I know I wake up sometimes and catch myself at it!

As for the failure to answer, I wonder if there are people who don't want to become obsessive about TMS, because obsession is a problem in itself. It can be a fine balance to strike between helping other people, and wallowing in lists of their symptoms - like sitting in a virtual doctor's office listening to everyone else coughing and sneezing!

I've heard your worries and anxieties in the past, and sympathise with them - and I too have recurring anxieties, to do with my family in my case - and sometimes I'm about to post a long vent about them, then realise I'm on the same old ground and stop myself (other times I just go right ahead!)

Here I see a new situation - having some auditions set up - and maybe that's bringing up symptoms? Sounds like it's something that matters to you, and therefore a stress in itself (we know how even positive things can bring on a TMS attack). First, congratulations, I hope everything goes brilliantly for you! And second, be kind and take a little extra care of yourself - sounds like you need a little 'soothe' right now!

Warmest wishes, Joy

Especially surprising in view of how commonplace pain ailments are throughout the general population. Other than a few regulars, it seems most people just make a handful of entries here and then fade out. Although judging by the post count of what I see to be "regulars", I'm guessing posting activity must have been higher in the past.

I hope new pain relief seekers visiting here will realize that relief and pain resolution will take some time and perseverance, and not expect immediate, one-shot cures.

Someone please correct my perception if I'm off-base.

I've noticed the same thing too. I think people came to seek help for their ailments. And once they got well, they decide to leave because they affraid if they read a "wrong" or negative post it would trigger their symtoms again. If you notice, most of the posts here started with: "I have this problems, I have this pain..." Unless you're very confidence with your cure, most people would just stay away until the next symptoms come. They affraid of "the power of suggestion".

I also suspect that many tmser's are also suffering from: Münchausen syndrome ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%BCnchausen_syndrome#Treatment_and_prognosis ) to some people it felt good when you're in pain and you received some comforting words, some attentions.

Hey Karen,
There are still plenty of us around......I haven't been on the front line as long as the chaps above but I've been around for a while now.......and I also have to agree with Art word for word.

We can only provide the tools......YOU gotta do the work. No work no results!

You have to get control of your thoughts.

Good luck

That's fuuny Karen, I was just thinking recently, "When is S/A going to resurface?" And abracadabra, here you are! I've barely had time to brew my java and toast my Pillsbury pastry streudel, so sit down and peruse some TMS materials in my sig below. I'd been wondering how you were handling all that was thrown at you since you were last here. Your "brother" in Vegas had committed suicide and you were left as executor. You were still longing to move to Jersey. So you made a stop in Colorado and are on your way to Ohio, two beautiful states by the way.

Patience Grasshopper, there are many ahead of you in the TMS triage waiting room, a TMS toothache must wait for the dire cases to be treated. Settle back and we'll get you a TMS/morphine drip as soon as a couch in the TMS/ER opens up.

Cheers

Singer,

You used to complain in the good old days too about not being sufficiently supported.
Here's a novel idea, why not try supporting yourself? I'll bet a thousand dollars you could write a TMS-savvy response to your own post just as persuasively as anything anyone else could write. You know the problems, and you know the answers.

Recovery requires personal growth. You must be willing to change. I see nothing in your current post that I wasn't seeing 5 years ago. I don't mean to be hard on you. But if you want to get better you're going to have to change. Simple as that (though not easy).

Do you really honestly need someone to point out to you that you continue to worry too much? The last time you were here you were concerned you'd been hurt because your dog had bumped into you. Now you're planning your life around your fear of lyme disease. Get your dogs vaccinated and forget it!

i also get very few replies to my posts..unfortunately the veterans on the post probably are seeing a pattern of redundance in the posts, i wouldnt take it personally, i would say its a positive thing that they read your post-the interest is always there no matter what
be well

I have to admit that i miss the days when it almost felt like a family of sorts on here..Wherein someone would never have 18 people reading their post and not one person responding..That is part of the reason I do not check in more often and oftentimes end up deleting my post.
Disappointed.
