I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 25 year experience who has also recovered from 20 years of TMS pain. I have an office in Lexington and I see TMS patients for coaching and education, primarily. I specifically help people with the reprogramming necessary to thwart the brain's strategy. I can be reached at debbyconley@gmail.com or 978-505-3003. I ask folks to read Sarno's books prior to contacting me as I am not a physician and cannot convince anyone they have TMS. I also went through Sarno's classes in New York. I have been pain free for a number of years.

Ms Conley:
Thank you! I am able to crawl and I have not been able to do that for 5 years! Now once I can get in the shower without socks on I will have beat that other 10 percent I havent been able to get over. Folks email or call this woman you will not regret it and accept the TMS diagnosis.

Do you think one should persist with the feared activity - even though it provokes intense and prolonged pain - (as I remember) the Fred Amir method - until (hopefully) the pain is no longer elicited?

I meant to do what we are afraid of. If you are afraid to drive in the car without a pillow, throw out the pillow. If you are afraid to wear shoes because of foot pain, wear your most uncomfortable shoes and tell your brain where to go. If you are afraid to ride a bike, get on the bike and tell your brain where to go. You can always start slow, and build up confidence, but it is absolutely necessary to do what you feel you cannot do, physically.

Tippy - when she said not to retreat from what we fear, did she mean not to retreat from "pain provoking" physical activities where there may be conditioning or not to retreat from scary psychological areas in our brain?

Do you know after I got off of the phone with Ms Conley that TMS monster tried to come back! I felt a twinge in my foot and I laughed and it went away. Then a pain in my arm showed up which never happened before and that dissapeared. It was like it was trying to tell me "Dont believe the TMS therapist I am not going anywhere"...LOL

Lo and behold I woke up this morning and a problem I was having with my foot went away and I had a better grip in my shoes. There is still work to be done but what was 10 percent that I have to work on has now become 9 percent! Hooray!

I spoke with Ms Conley today and I highly respect her! She has been through TMS herself so she can point you in the right direction and tell you what you need to do and she pulls no punches. If anyone is looking to get well please speak with this woman. I did not want to speak to a TMS therapist who had not been through it themselves. We really have to work at it attacking the pain and the origins of it and Debbie taught me if we are to get better we must not retreat from that which we are afraid of. Call her or email her and you will find out what I am talking about.

Hi Debbie :)

I live fairly close to you and am familiar with the ideas but new to applying the process....are you open to doing initial phone consults?

I'm very glad to hear you have been pain free for quite some time :)
