Posted - 01/23/2012 : 11:38:43 Hello,
I have not posted in a while, but I wanted to get y'alls thoughts on something. I have had IBS since I was 9 (had a gas bubble couldn't eat was in the hospital) and ever since I have been WAY more gassy than the average person. If the average person passes gas 25 times a day...I pass 100 or more. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat. Diet modification doesn't seem to help. I got off soda's because of heartburn and gas but hasn't really helped. I am working on thinking psychological but trying to figure out if I will ever be able to eat normal? I know some people that found chicken doesn't bother them so all they eat now is chicken cause the slightest amount of gas indicates problems. I love chicken but do I really have to only eat that the rest of my life? Surely this is TMS or equivalent.
When I went to a doctor a while back for back issues they did an x ray of my spine and on the x ray..a pocket of gas (running from my stomach to the top of my chest could be seen on the composite and the doctor mentioned that was the largest pocket of gas he had ever seen. Yet, he prescribed nothing. I often think gas pressure is what makes my back hurt.
Anyways...anyone had this issue and defeated it? It's uncomfortable, and embarrassing loud and smells obviously. I'm 27 years old and I have dealt with this for the past 18 years.
Thanks
Brian

Posted - 05/14/2012 : 20:54:41 Thanks everyone for the responses. I have had every test known to man ( and in the past two months) I had the stomach bug and got the gas bubble AGAIN 18 years later...but after CT, MRI, X-RAY, Barium, w and without contrast, endoscopy EVERYTHING came back "normal" DOC even said.."You may have IBS, but that's not what caused this" they have no explanations "functional disorder" so it HAS to be psychological yes? Doc even says it's Anxiety

Posted - 01/25/2012 : 07:36:06 The bottom line is the engine is either running clean or it is not. If you supplement gas additives, change the O2 sensor or tune up the injector unit and still have a fowl sulfur smell coming from the exhaust, it just may be the catalytic converter not burning up the unused fuel properly. What I am saying is something may be unbalanced perhaps out of whack. Once you restore a system, everything else that’s supposed to work together works properly again.
You can have gas once in a while or you can have a chronic condition of bloating / smelly gas and fowl stools for multiple reasons. How bout the age old argument What came first the chicken or the egg?
Note: If you have disturbed gut flora there must be a reason. Sometimes you can alter your bodies’ good gut flora by anxiety worry and stress. However if its all the time and chronic something else may be going on . Again that is for you to do the detective work . Its your body and IMO the body will always tell you when something is out of whack.
I think I already gave some practical suggestions in what to try as you continue to work on the mind body connection.
Best wishes Kenny V

Posted - 01/25/2012 : 06:03:09 you are dead on darko-dont buy into it-i did the probiotic ,supplement, health store nonsense, turned out to be a big waste of money, now i eat a healthy diet, exercise, gas and ibs turn out to be symptoms to obsess about, once you sarnoize them , it substitutes for another symptom, in my case, sinus "issues" and headaches, then subs for backache and prostate pain, you just have to keep it on the run. |

Posted - 01/24/2012 : 17:38:45 Whoaday, I've gone through this and still do from time to time. I've had so mach gas that I'm sure the hole on the ozone over Antarctica is mostly my fault.....and it's rotten too. It can be so think at time that it distorts light....and the bloating, oh the bloating! It used to be a real issue for me but now I know it's just TMS. There are still things I can't eat heaps of, like dried fruit. I can eat it but if I go over board then watch out, but the important thing is that i dont buy into it like I once did. I dont worry about how much air I swallow or my diet. It's anxiety for me plain and simple.....if I get IBS I don;t get backpain, they are interlinked and swap.
Your problem is that you believe you have an issue, and if you continue to think this you will have IBS for another 18 years....plain and simple
Get comfortable with your IBS and embrace it.....LET IT RIP MATE! Just focus on whats going on/has gone on, in your life and how you feel about it.

Posted - 01/24/2012 : 16:24:21 The best detoxifier for your body is your liver. So keep that healthy. If you think that you have an imbalance in your bowel bacteria then eat food rich in prebiotics or supplement with probiotics.
Balto has got it spot on with what she says. See this article that supports what Kenny says about the brain-gut reaction http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1350238/Feel-bloated-Cramps-The-problem-BRAIN.html#ixzz1C2YM7pSm. Sounds familiar? All you need to do is replace the word gut with back and this could be an article about Dr Sarno’s work on back pain.
From personal experience, air swallowing when eating or drinking can cause a lot of gas in the stomach. Just being able to reduce air swallowing can make a huge difference.

Posted - 01/24/2012 : 12:43:41 Usually how the engine is running is indicated by what comes out of the exhaust. If these conditions have been going on for a loooooooonnnng time. Especially while adding in the TMS approach and nothing has came out of it. I would than suggest to share your diet and daily stool pattern with a good nutritionist. Someone who is also familiar with cleansing and detox…
JMHO Nothing wrong with a good cleanse, eating healthier while making sure the Gi tract is all in order. Invest and try a better approach for say 2-3 months to see if you note any change. If this has been a chronic ongoing condition than perhaps something may be out of whack. Its amazing sometimes how a good cleanse gets things in working order again .
Btw there has been allot of research on the gut brain connection. However it is not discussed much in mainstream medicine.

Posted - 01/24/2012 : 08:47:01 Our stomachs can not produce gas out of nothing. The gas we passed came from the food we eat, the gas that seeped into our intestines from our blood, or the air that we swallowed.
If you eat normally then I suspect you're an air swallower. Tenses, stressed, tms people usually don't breath properly. We tend to swallowed lots of air when we breath, talk, or eat and those air ended up in our stomach. It then either go back up when we belching or go down when we passed gas. If you pay attention you probably will see that you would passed gas more during a stressful period than when you're calm and relax.
Try to practice deep breathing or some mindfulness meditation. Observe how you breath and take control of your breathing. It will help. |
