Posted - 02/05/2005 : 10:18:10 I really want to get some tapes I can play in the car to help with my TMS. I can't seem to get to Brady's web site as it still seems to be down (almost a week now). I was wondering if anyone has his tapes or Schecter's tapes and which one do you think is more worthwhile as far as having something to play in the car. I am sick of this shoulder problem of mine. It is really starting to get me down. It is mainly loss of mobility, like frozen shoulder. I can't even tuck my pants in as swinging my arm behind my back kills me. Also I can't pull a shirt over my head. It has been 2 months now and the immobility problem and loss of range of motion seems to be getting worse. My chiro said anything over 6 weeks in duration is caused by an emotional blockage (same as TMS in my view), but I just can't seem to get rid of this. I went to a naturopath about 2-3 weeks ago and she told me she had the same thing and that it took 3 months of physical therapy and almost 8 months before it was healed. She told me that hers was diagnosed as adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder/rotator cuff and that she felt sure that is what I had. She told me to see a physical therapist right away or it would get worse. Now I really want to believe it is TMS since i have the dizziness which is TMS and have had other things in the past but I am torn on this one! I guess it is lack of range of motion that is throwing me off. It just feels like my shoulder is stuck and will not move past certain points and when I do try to force it the pain is unbearable, like I keep injurying it over and over. Anyway, any imput on which tapes to buy would be helpful. I sure wish Brady would get his website back up. Does anybody know a phone number for ordering his tapes?? Thanks! Elise

Posted - 02/06/2005 : 09:30:47 Hi Elise8,
It's a good move to get the Schechter tapes. I have not heard the Brady tapes so cannot comment on them. I got the Schechter tapes years ago, found them useful and put them on the shelf alongside my other TMS books, and Sarno Videos. I recently pulled them off the shelf when I found myself experiencing rising stresses in my life do to relationship friction, management issues at work, and the generaly gloomy world news outlook.
I was amazed how good it was to listen to Schechter's tapes which also features his TMS psychotherapist associate, Donald Dubin, who I did a recent phone session with. It was as if I had never listened to them before.
I find this significant to TMS--that we forget. We NEED regular, occasional TMS boosters becausue we FORGET! I have been listening to the tapes in my car. I am also amazed at how much I miss depending on how congested and stressful the drive is. It proves to me how fast TMS can operate in our minds. My attention on the road goes from an attentive listening mode to a reactive mode with any change in traffic conditions that require my attention and completly miss whatever TMS concept was being said. I just rewind and listen over to what I missed until I get it.
I am a tournament tennis player and have had just about every sprain, stain and tear there is. I played 5 hours of fun doubles yesteday on my TMS/"arthritc" hip and then visited my ailing father, attended a Senior's tennis awards banquet that evening, drove an hour and half and romanced with my girl friend. I slept very well and had no pain doing all those things accept for my TMS holding spot my hip--but I played through and routined all my opponents and had great FUN!
I had a shoulder injury years ago that is probably similar to yours. It is completely gone and I use that shoulder alomost everyday to hit a big serve hundreds of times, so your shoulder can be 100% again too. It was prior to my finding TMS theory but it only took three weeks of resting it.
As most new posters here, Elise, you mention many physical therapy fixes. SAVE YOUR MONEY. Quit seeing your chiro, and all other physical methods of dealing with what is probably TMS. Find a TMS doctor or a TMS psypchotherapist to confirm that it it is TMS. I have tried every PT and alternative therapy under the sun including chiro and naturopaths and found them all of no permanent use and only PLACEBO. As soon as I got out of parking lot and back to the stess fueling "traffic" of the real world, the pain came right back.
I use TMS thinking daily to fix all kinds of injuries as they occur on the tennis court. This past week I got hit really hard by a serve on my inner thigh by a 6'5" ex-NFL football player. It really stung! I also hurt my wrist by trying to return a hard shot that jammed me. I FEARED that it could be a real problem injury. Thinking TMS'ly, I played through and it's quickly being forgotten. Like I said, I played five hours yesterday and things felt better not worse. In a few minutes I am going out to hopefully play for another five hours or until there is no one left to play with. Tonight I'll reward myself with a hot-tub and a few stretching laps in the pool.
Good luck, tt |

Posted - 02/05/2005 : 10:35:32 I for one highly recommend the Schechter tapes. I listen to them in the car nearly every day and find especially helpful, the third in the series, in which Dr. Schechter presents a conversation with a TMS trained psychologist. I got mine off of amazon. Hope this helps!
