after almost a year and a half I'm confused and just joined this site and I wanted to possibly get some reponses. I have had neurlogical type symptoms for quite a while. I get twitching all over with muscle tightness. My fingers twitch from time to time. my joints hurt ( ankles and shoulders). My mouth often feels funky or off too. I Speak and eat normal, just feels weird kinda uncoordinated feeling. My tongue kinda feels fat or burnt too. The symptom that I've had the longest and that bothers me in finding an explanation is my low back pain and arch cramping. It seemed to die down after a few months into this and about 8 months back seemed to slowly pick up. Mainly my right leg has this weird irritated itchy type feeling in it all the time. My low back seems to hurt fairly decent and is pretty constant. My arches truly irritate me. I can feel it coming on, my foot along the side between the big to back to the ankle starts to flex and then big toe points down and forward and my arch is cramped. As soon as I move my toe back toward my shin it goes away. I can do this just using my toe muscles, I don't have to pull it or anything. It also goes away if I stand up and put pressure on my leg. Like I said this used to be my right foot only and still mainly is but my left foot has started doing the same thing. I feel leg weakness, kinda like they might want to give out. I have seen 3 different neuros, 2 rheumys and several other docs. They say that I check out normal except for some bulging discs that they even confess shouldn't be bothering me. My first emg picked up on a slight radiculopathy possibly from my discs but the second emg was totally clear and it was 8 months later. So now i wonder what the heck is going on. My doctors say fibro type stuff or anxiety. I had severe health anxiety for 5 years prior to this and still do. Any feedback would be great. Thanks

tms all the way! if you are questioning it,its probably tms..i cured a tingly foot over the holidays just by shifting my way of thinking-and realizing my in laws were creating anger inside of me..its all about the repressed anger with me. anger is the root of all evil everytime with me.

If it is TMS/Mind Body, then discussing individual symptoms and finding people with similar ones will perhaps do more harm than good. The point is your mind can play pretty much any game it likes with your body, so focus on the mind, not the body. Focusing on the body reinforces TMS symptoms and the tyranny of the subconscious mind.

Having hope is a great place to start! That truly is the first step in recovering and moving forward in a more dynamic way.

I wish I could say I've experienced and recovered your symptoms, except for the low back pain, I haven't.

What I have experienced is severe health anxiety for 2 years. You've experienced it for 5, that's a whole lot of suffering. That's a burden nobody should carry everyday of their life for that length of time. We deserve better and so much more out of life than living a vicious cycle of daily emotional and psychological trauma.

You've been examined by a lot of specialists, they tell you that they have found nothing wrong with you that should be causing your symptoms. That's good! But yet, you're still suffering? Coming to a clear understanding of why you still are even though nothing is wrong with you, is pivotal to your recovery IMHO.

Like others have said, reading Dr Sarno's books or other material related to TMS is going to help you come to a clear understanding of the root cause of your painful symptoms and how you can recover from it.

I wanted to share with you a 20/20 segment that I found some months back that really gave me confidence that Dr Sarno isn't just a quack doctor. I came to believe the guy is brilliant and a Godsend for many people in agonizing or just annoying and nagging pain.

Here is the link ...

If you celebrate Christmas, I hope you have a wonderful one. Don't let TMS rob you of a wonderful Holiday!

I am a cynic as well. I only read the book because my wife got it out of the local library for me. Lucky me!!! I suffered from a number of symptoms over the years and I am currently trying to overcome neuropathic pains from my waist down. 6 weeks ago, I was unable to sit for more than 15 minutes without being in a lot of pain but I have recently completed car journeys of 3 hours driving each day on 2 consecutive days. I still get pains but I am much more optimistic. I read John Sarno’s book just 6 weeks ago.

I know it is hard to accept but you have to acquire the knowledge to understand where people are coming from on this forum. The book I suggested is just $6.99 from Amazon. This is a fraction of what most people spend on therapists. Before you buy any book, why not listen to the web link I sent on Dr Schubiner describing Mind Body Syndrome. Youtube will display many other links including Dr Sarno (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABeBPHyW9H0&feature=related ) talking about TMS.

There are countless stories on this forum or Amazon that should give you hope to proceed. I suggest you follow Balto’s idea and search the forum. You may also find this link useful http://www.rsi-backpain.co.uk/index.html where there is further success stories all based on Dr Sarno’s TMS methods.

Good luck and tinge your scepticsm with an open mind. I would be interested to know what you think of the videos.

The search button is your friend; curl-up with that search button and you will find much empathy. TMS is not for everybody, Dr. Sarno does an evaluation of potential patients and turns many away, so as not to waste their time and money. It's the holidays, the board is slow, people are out shopping, and that's where I'm going. Take a look at my sig, there may be some info you'll find useful.

G'luck mate.

There is a search function on this forum, If you do a search for any of your symptoms you're currently have I'm sure you will find many post discussed about it. And you're probably will find many helpful posts for that symptom. I myself suffered from back pain, burning mouth, foot pain and strange feeling,... for many years and I did got rid of all of them using what I've learn from books and from other wise people.

I think PhilMid did you a favor by recommending the book and clip. Would you rather learn how to deal with your health problem from a book wrote by an highly respected medical doctor who has years of experience treating people with symptoms like your or would you rather learn from anonimous strangers in forums like this one?

From my own experience I really think, your own doctor is right, what you have is tms/anxiety. I'm sure we all need empathy when we're in pain. I know I did. But for us to get well we need to take action, we need to either go to a tms doctor, read books wrote by tms doctors and learn from it, or learn from other people who have defeated tms/anxiety. If visiting doctor or reading book is not you thing then take a look around this wonderful forum, there are thousand of posts and I'm very sure many of them will have useful informations for you to deal with your pain/anxiety problems.
goodluck to you.

Well I wondered if my symptoms were experienced by anyone else on this forum. There are no tms practitioners in my city or even in nearby cities. I was hoping for a little more empathy than a " read the book" response. I have to say that that response in and of itself makes me very skeptical from the get go. What I here is" buy my product"
I'm trying to get feedback from others that have gone down the same or a similar road and then used sarnos therapy and experienced success.

Your last few sentences seem to indicate the hub of the problem and you may be experiencing these symptoms to distract and protect you.

They cannot find anything wrong and that probably increases your anxiety. It sounds like TMS but maybe you need that confirmed by a TMS practitioner. I read Dr John Sarno’s book “Healing Back Pain” and found it very helpful and very interesting. Have a look at the reviews on Amazon. A book like this will help you look at your pain differently.

I found this link useful. It gives a quick overview of Mind Body Syndrome by Dr Shubiner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldyI7mJG2EA&feature=player_embedded.

I am sure that once you have gained this type of knowledge it will help you to decide what to do next and maybe post an update on what further advice you want.
