Hi Everyone,
New hear and was hoping to get some advice. I am 31 and have had chronic low back pain for around 2 years that has become much worse over the last 12 months. Living in Australia i have no TMS doc to diagnose so i have had a heap of tests to rule out anything serious to help realise this is TMS. I have had an MRI, X ray, Nuerological exam and had Arthritis ruled out. All the Rheumotologist found was a minor disc bulge that was not affecting nerves etc and said there is no way it could be causing that much pain. Now here is my problem...After finding nothing with all of these tests they want me to get a Lumbar bone scan to search for Facet joint arthritis. Sarno lists this as painless in HBP and the last thing i need is for them to find some normal wear and tear and blame that as my pain source. I guess if they cant find the pain source they just keep testing till they can. Does anyone have experience of Facet joint diagnosis?? Should even bother with this test? By the way i fit the TMS profile perfectly and the only reason i am scared of this test is that i know if they find a Facet problem i'll find it that much harder to believe TMS 100%. Any advice much appreciated.

Hi and Thanks for the reply,
The main reason in not being at 100% belief yet with the TMS is i only recently found out about it and have just started to learn. I have enormous amounts of fear and anxiety about my back and from what iv'e learned now...That certainly doesn't do chronic back pain any favours. I decided to cancel the test after researching it more. TMS doc's don't order bone scans after the usual MRI, X Ray,CT, Nuerolgical exams all come back normal so im going to get off the merry go round of endless tests and focus on TMS. The normal docs and specialists here are only generating more anxiety for me and thats the last thing i need.

Try hard enough, and you will eventually find a doctor to give a diagnosis.

Seems to me, if you are seriously considering this test, that you already find it "hard to believe TMS 100%." Explore why.

Hi Aussie,

What would you gain by having this test? What would you have to lose? Weigh the two up and decide what's most important. Do you want to know whether or not you have arthritis? You are 31 years old. Gosh, man, what have you been doing that would cause this wear and tear? What would you do with the information? Most of us given such a diagnosis would feel a whole lot worse and the pain may very well increase. Alternatively you could accept that TMS is the likely culprit and banish the pain. Behind it all is most likely fear and anxiety. I won't go into that topic because there is much already written on this subject on this forum.

It is up to YOU Aussie, and you alone, whether you take TMS by the hands/arms/balls/shoulders - wherever you need to! - if you fit the profile to a T (and there are some of "us" who don't, but still have "TMS" by the way!) - golly, I don't know the ins and outs of the back pain world, but I guess Dr Sarno's books would be really helpful!

I just want to move to Oz :( Like, that's a source of my TMS :(

Wishing you all the best Aussie!
