Posted - 10/30/2011 : 07:03:18 what is the tms take on muscle knots/myofacial points?
are they tms, are they a palpable manifestation of tms? healing back pain talks of trigger points, but not specifically about knots.
i have them all around my right shoulder blade. i have pain there too.
conventional medicine seems to think physio may help, but mostly they don't know what causes them or how to treat them.
trigger point therapists think they can cure them with massage and/or saline injections.
i have found massage offers only temporary relief.

Posted - 10/30/2011 : 17:21:34 I am not sure if Dr. Schubiner covers knots in the back, as I have not read Dr. Schubiner's books. I do know that Dr. Schubiner and Dr. Stracks are friends and generally agree on the same approaches to thing, probably including knots in the back.

Posted - 10/30/2011 : 12:16:14 That's good to hear. I saw your post on the tms wiki about back knots too. The fact that you've had knots lessen and go is helpful to me as I just read conventional medical a source saying they are there for good.
I should read what Dr Schubiner has to say. Which book was it in? |

Posted - 10/30/2011 : 08:38:33 I asked a TMS doc, Dr. Stracks, about this very thing a couple of weeks ago, because I have an muscle knot lower mid back right side that has been with me so long that it should be helping with my mortgage.
Here was Dr. Stracks' answer to a question I entitled: "Stubborn Knot"...
quote: Don't let the old physical demons bring you down. Muscle knots themselves don't cause pain, just our reaction to them causes the pain.
Keep thinking psychologically. You'll be ok.
For well over a year my entire upper back was a solid knot. My paraspinals were like, and I quote, "railroad tracks" -- they stood up that much.
Massage never helped any of my knotted muscles for more than a few moments. I still get a massage every so often, but just for relaxation and not for therapy. The MT is diligent about focusing on my knot (I should name the prick), but it does no good.
The more I accepted the TMS dx the more muscles relaxed. Finally one morning I noticed that the upper muscles had relaxed, leaving me with one stubborn knot that pulls and yanks all the other muscles right around my abdomen. I am going with the flow and I have noticed that this knot is lessening the more I resume my life and lose the fear and accept that my knot is going to be with me as a freeloading "pain", even though it is not contributing to household expenses.
Hope the doc's explanation helps.
