So I'm.back with a brand new symptom. My arms feel extremely weak and heavy. Of course when you Google it MS and ALS come up ;( they're so heavy that when I go to change radio station in my car I can't hold up my arm for long without it hurting a little. It feels very heavy, like it can't be lifted. Also, I'm a teacher and when I read a book aloud to my kids I hold the book out so they can see the pictures and I can't hold the book that long ? Has anyone experienfed this ? Plus the last advice I needed about my circulation in my right hand.isn't good. I think the only thing that is stopping my circulation is thoracic outlet syndrome. A blood clot or something ? Everything on the internet says bad things and ill need surgery since its positional. I'm very depressed. can someone help me ?

i check the forum every few days and read the new topics. this one clicked with me as i have been having a similar problem lately. i dont have a profound weakness but heres how my arms are acting up.
i got a promotion at work and once or twice during my shift i have to get all the checks, receipts and coupons out from the registers and seperate them. i take the checks and stamp them all and then add them all up twice. i noticed the past couple of times i done this it was a little more labor for me. kinda like when you are holding an object over your head and your muscles start to get tired and fatigued from holding it, and you get aggravated. thats the feeling i have been getting. it happened at home the other day when i was trying to burn a disc and it wouldnt work right.

i do have shoulder impingement but i have never had problems flipping checks around. i have never seen my shoulder impingement as tms b/c it has never gotten well. it just all feels inflamed and pops alot and i just deal with it and move on with life.
i am having neck pain and some stiffness. i am sure this is due to posture b/c i am 6 ft 4 in and at work i looked down all day. nothing i can do about that but hope that somehow my body will adapt to it without doing any damage.
i have considered my painful , weak feeling arms to be tms. i thought it was just a new trick my mind learned. i dont know yet but we will see.

Jena,

Art and Kesh are right-on. Have you seen Dr. Sarno for your newest symptom and are you still being treated by the TMS therapist he referred you to?

Jena, you're going to have to take the leap or continue to suffer. You write as though your symptoms are real, and yet you want advice from people who are going to tell you they are not.

We can't help you. You have to help you. How? By making a resolution...and then sticking to it....never to Google another symptom. And then by making a further resolution to stop worrying. This can be done. I've seen it over and over again on this very forum. I've done it myself.

I don't mean to be hard on you. You're an intelligent, college educated woman. The TMS concepts are not difficult. Those how make the leap get better. Those who do not, continue to suffer...

To which group do you want to belong?

One thing I have found with TMS/Psychosomatic symptoms is healthy normal feelings get enormously exaggerated and prolonged. So what should be a slight weakness and ache in my thumb joints from holding a book too long becomes bad pain, stiffness and exhaustion and I start thinking I have rheumatoid arthritis or something.

The exageration of normal nerve signals into pain and weakness has a name, I forget what it is.
