Posted - 10/03/2011 : 23:39:51 I'm having trouble with a particular symptom. over the past couple years I have had episodes of bladder irritation (feel like I have to go to the bathroom every ten minutes), that last weeks or even months, then they go away. I realize with my history of TMS, that it is the most likely culprit. But I've also passed a number of kidney stones (I know because I've seen them) and some of the bladder issues have corresponded with kidney stone episodes. So it's a nice cover for the TMS gremlin and gives him an excuse to perpetuate symptoms against my best judgment. I've conquered a lot of other symptoms, but the fact that I have had legitimate kidney stone symptoms during SOME of bladded episodes is keeping me from making progress.
for awhile I have kept a journal of each episode and I've posted a judgment about whether each episode was TMS or a kidney stone. This was helping me keep my thoughts clear. But I had an episode in 2010 that seemed like classic TMS and then produced a stone at the end. And I'm in the middle of a two month episode now that had one day of kidney stone signs in the middle (one day of urine tests positive for white and red blood cells, and pinkish urine), but has been otherwise clear of kidney stone symptoms. My doctors express grave skepticism that a stone could cause these bladder symptoms for more than about a week, and internet research supports that idea.... BUT the gremlin is persistent in telling me that I might have some unique or rare incidence of kidney stones that could cause this persistent bladder irritation for weeks without the other painful and more dramatic typical stone symptoms.
should I make another medical visit, perhaps to a kidney stone specialist, to try to rule this out, or is TMS making me jump through ridiculous hoops?

Posted - 10/07/2011 : 04:04:54 Interestingly it was when I developed bladder irritation that I came across TMS. I first thought I had a bladder infection but I didn't. I started to have high strength fish oil, which I usually have instead of ibuprofen for inflammation, and it went away but I'm sure it was TMS. |

Posted - 10/05/2011 : 18:27:01 I had this bladder irritation a while back. I knew it was tms and got rid of it. But while suffering from it I found that walking for about 30 minutes a day would help me have more control of my bladder. |

Posted - 10/05/2011 : 11:50:44 This is one of the areas where it gets a bit dodgy for me. I know that IC is TMS, but it can keep me awake to the point where I have to start hitting the drugz, so I'd rather find a natural remedy in addition, of course, to pooh poohing the whole thing and thinking psychologically.
I'm always riding the edge of what is "real" and what is TMS, and I famously had cancer earlier this year, and I had been pretty much ignoring the symptoms for quite a while, so I had a near miss, so I'm feeling an even greater need to walk this fine line carefully.
So, regarding the bladder irritation, I asked my excellent M.D. who is very much into natural remedies but will give drugs where necessary. She said that lots of her women patients have had huge relief from pumpkin seed extract which is in a product called Better Bladder For Women, so I ordered it on Amazon. Just thought I'd pass that on, in the interest of being practical. I've only taken one so far...
Acid and alkali balance are not an imaginary thing either, and sometimes I take a little baking soda when I feel acidic and burny. And I also notice that there are rage-producing elements in my life. Both/and

Posted - 10/05/2011 : 08:38:49 Hey Sarah!
I do sympathise - bladder symptoms are hard to ignore because peeing is something we need to do naturally! I can only tell you what worked for me, once I'd realised it was TMS - try to hold on! Seriously, bladder retraining. I know it's impossible when you're on the road, or not in control of the next toilet break (which was a big perpetuating factor for me), but if, when you're home, you try to distract yourself, or promise yourself that you can go in 'ten minutes', you will find it gets better.
As for the kidney stones, they will come out anyway if you're drinking normal amounts of water.
It's never a perfect solution, I know when I'm nervous I'm going to pee more, but that is, as Back-2 It says, a standard symptom. Animals pee when they're nervous too.
Wishing you well, Joy |

Posted - 10/04/2011 : 13:11:18 God, the hours I wasted reading (and scaring myself rigid with) stories about IC - I agree they all sound like TMS sufferers too. I know a million percent that my symptoms are anxiety - but haven't had any relief.
Hopefully you will!

Posted - 10/04/2011 : 12:51:12 thanks for the help so far.... I've tried not to "do" anything to fix the bladder symptoms....just reading about interstitial cystitis online and all the nonsense people try to control that makes me hesitant to get into that quagmire of frustration. (they all sound like TMS sufferers to me). the kidney stone possibility just messes with my resolve.

Posted - 10/04/2011 : 09:25:28 Hi Sarah,
I've had the bladder manifestation of TMS for far more years than I care to remember
Abigail Steidley (thehealthylifecoach.com) who healed from bladder TMS mentioned on her site - I can't find the exact part now - that she was eating packets and packets of Tums as a way to try to reduce the acidity of the urine to stop her bladder stinging (I've done similar, just shows the lengths we'll go to!)... and then ended up with kidney stones due to the calcium! So I just wondered if you were doing similar, or have a high alkaline diet? If you can reduce your risk of kidney stones, then you'll know it's TMS

Posted - 10/04/2011 : 05:30:47 Frequent urination is a classic anxiety symptom.
A kidney stone and anxiety from frequent urination do not have to be mutually exclusive. A kidney stone is a real medical issue, and likely one to keep you worried and on edge.
Having had the pleasure of passing a stone once, I can recall only sudden pain and no frequent trips to the toilet prior or after.
Not a doctor of course; just my opinion.
