Hi i just recently joined the site and am curious if im barking up the wrong tree. Heres my story im 25 yr male ive been dealing with health anxiety for the last 7 years amd have had OCD since im 6. I grew up a bad childhood i was abused and just lets say loved with 2 drinkers who had me shaking before i came home. When i first found out about TMS i was at work im a correction officer. And i thought wow this is me but a couple of questions. 1. I dont have all these tender points ive read about can i still have tms? 2. I have 2 knots in my lower back in the muscle i literally felt the knot on the righy after i was worried about an injury in that area, 7 months lster a knot on the left side with similiar symptoms. Are these knots part of tms? 3. I know im a hypochondriac and seem to jump from pain to pain but this back pain i producing physical knots that seem to persist and when i am arguing with someone these knots seem to burn lol i feel crazy still tms worthy? My back sometimes gets so stiff that if i bend to touch my toes i literally here the tendond bones and muscle crack like falling dominoes scary. This past year my father and my aunt passed the 2 closest people 2 me. The pain os worse when im at work it seems like my clothes rubbing in thevarea of the knots is whats starts it off area is real sensitive but sometimes not so much. My pain isnt excruciating just annoying sensations a stiffnes. I read about myofascial trigger points and that seems like wgat i got in my back bht still not sure if trigger points are tms. Massage with tennis ball seems to hel but hurts for awhile after. My personality is type A very self cinscious competitive and overall a stress aholic but also can relax if i have too. appreciate any help sorry for anf of the typing errors doinh this on my phone.

Everyone has different manifestations of TMS. The brain is clever and gives us the symptoms we are most likely to focus on, most likely to convince us that there is serious physical problem. The tender trigger points are one physical hallmark of someone who suffers from TMS, but it is certainly not a requirement.

It sounds like you have the psychological profile of someone who is highly susceptible to TMS. I urge you to read (and re-read) The Mindbody Prescription and follow the treatment suggestions.

I had myofascial trigger points all over my body at one point. It hurt to move in any direction when I was just sitting or lying around. Stiffness was terrible. It is stress. Muscle tension from stress. It's all fine now. I work all day, play basketball, throw football, water ski. I also obsessively massaged them to try to get them to reduce or go away. If you just substitute the thought of "I have to do something to relieve this awful pain" with "I should do nothing more often with my body and brain, and then my body will be able to return to normal," you're on your way.

I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.

I would not hesitate to say that you fir the TMS profile. When we grow up in an atmosphere where there is no love than we will have fear. Our thoughts race, we have no peace, and eventually our physical bodies will develop symptoms. Luckily the knowledge of truth can bring us to a place of healing, joy and love.

Hey Joe,

You sure fit the bill. This place is crawling with hypochondriacs (including me) and I can virtually guarantee you're in the right place. Yes, you certainly can and almost certainly do have TMS even without those tender points. TMS is a diffuse illness that expresses itself in all kinds of ways...

Bottom line, read the books, ask questions, and then apply what you've learned. Information is the cure,,

Welcome.
