A weird experience the other day... I was feeling really awful and anxious and in pain, and though I'm not a spooky chick at all, I muttered 'If I have a guardian angel out there, could I please see a sign that this really is TMS?' Then I chugged a few painkillers and a beta blocker and went out for a walk to town, hoping to distract myself.

In town, I noticed that a television team were filming a 'Street Doctor' programme. I walked past, too nervous to approach - the doctor was a woman I'd seen on screen, and thought to be brisk and dismissive. About an hour later, I was drawn back there, not expecting them still to be there - but they were, and this time with a rather handsome male doctor I'd seen and admired many times. To my surprise, there was no one else waiting to be seen. A runner for the show made a beeline for me - would I be willing to talk to the doctor?' Okay, I would!

So he came over, and though we decided not to film it, we discussed my abdominal pain, and could it really be IBS, in such a small, specific area? It could, he assured me (and we all know IBS is TMS). I told him that I was booked for a colonoscopy, not sure that I needed it. He said to go ahead, 'just to reassure you that there's nothing wrong', then maybe look into mind-body strategies, like hypnosis. As a polisher, he added cheerfully that 'Some people find that the colonoscopy cures them in any case!'

I am taking this as a big nod from the Universe that this is TMS!!! And a big shout out to my angel... What do you guys think?

PS this doesn't mean my IBS is instantly better - in fact, it's been flaring horribly lately! - but I think I've read that TMS can get temporarily worse when you have it on the run - has this happened to anyone? - rather like the devil 'filled with fury because he knows that his time is short'!
