I was talking with a friend the other day who works as a physical therapist. The owner of the clinic he works in has a wife who some years ago fell while skating. A few weeks later she started having back problems.
As this was going on she also developed all sorts of symptoms that many of us Sarno proponents recognize as frequently psychosomatic. Reflux, headaches, aching legs, jaw pain, knee pain.
Long sad story cut short, she's had all her fillings replaced, back surgery, and 2 knee surgeries. Her life is nothing but doctor visits and unrelenting pain. A once active, athletic woman has been reduced to near invalidism.
This stuff is serious business. As if we didn't already know that :>) |

Ugh, I have felt that way myself... like I have described earlier (and I think Sarno has described) a barely functioning disabled person. It is amazing how quickly it can all spiral out of control, and how quickly doctors can "explain away" the pain... ie., I was told after my knee surgery that my opposite ankle started hurting because of gait changes and compensation mechanisms. I still struggle with refuting the structural 'explanations' at times.
Have you mentioned TMS to your physical therapist friend? Or is it too touchy of a subject? |
