Posted - 03/11/2011 : 12:35:12 I was listening to Lady Gaga's Born This Way. And, it is pretty awesome. I just wish I could feel like that. There have been rare moments when I have really felt like I loved myself, faults and all, how I was born. But these have been few and far in between. However, when I do love myself, I am so much happier. And other people seem more attracted to me as a person too.
Do you love yourself? How? For me, it only seems to happen when all the external circumstances are right. Job. Friends. Body(have struggled with lots of eating issues). Etc. Etc.
How do you love yourself, regardless of everything else going well or not going well in your life? |

Posted - 03/23/2011 : 11:45:07 I believe some of the ways we could love ourselves more include: * Confessing our faults one to another * Forgiving ourselves * Forgiving others * Taking our thoughts captive (like if you have a thought like your stupid, not good enough, etc.) and replacing the thought with the TRUTH. I believe everyone is given a gift. * Don't live in the past, or in the future * I also believe we love ourselves when we love others. Treat others the way we want to be treated.
Taking our thoughts captive is real important. Sometimes we are so used to our thoughts we just learn to believe them, and our actions follow. Maybe take some time and write down what your thoughts were for the day. Do that for a week. When you start seeing those negative thoughts, you can learn to stop and say, you know, this isn't the truth. Over time they can disappear and your mind with be clearer. Hope that helps. The bible is filled with verses that help me!

Posted - 03/15/2011 : 07:48:00 I believe "love" is an act of will, whether it is loving someone else or yourself.
When the infatuation goes away with another, then the will to love kicks in. Or doesn't.
When there has been no infatuation with self, no then love of self, then it has to be learned. It is a willful act.
This gets to the heart of why so many of us are here, no?

Posted - 03/14/2011 : 21:02:35 For me, I don't expect much from others, and always think I'm not giving enough, when usually I am making more sacrifices and accommodations.

Posted - 03/11/2011 : 12:55:25 This is a difficult one for me also, I'm always putting things on the back burner, even with the whole self love thing, I.e I'll love myself more when I'm slimmer, or I get rid of that fear, get the perfect job, the perfect man, when I leave that dead end situation I will start loving myself then... my love for myself is not unconditional, its conditional on what I achieve, what I set up for myself as something I have to overcome otherwise I'm a failure....its never given freely to me, or anyone else... I expect a lot from relationships, and its usually more than I can give and yet for some reason I expect it to be given to me, it makes for a lot of arguements and its something I'm working on, I think if I found more self love for myself I wouldn't put it on other people to give it to me.
This to shall pass.... |
