William Grassie
Most physicians are skeptical of complementary and alternative medicine and other spirituality-based healing practices, but research points to the conclusion that hope helps to heal. And ritualized hope in groups heals more effectively. http://www.religiondispatches.org/archive/culture/3806/ |

Posted - 01/28/2011 : 09:41:19 Thanks for the article Shawn! Dr. Sarno refers to the placebo effect several times in his books. He mentions an anecdote about a doctor, who relieves his years of back-pain, by venturing deep into the jungle and is healed by a witch-doctor at an all night ritual chicken killing ceremony. Dr. Sarno also says surgery is our best placebo.
Modern medicine, due to it's embracing of the Descartian method, ignores the greatest healing machine, one's own mindbody. Doctor's too often give patients nocebos that hinder or prevent the body's own healing process.
