It seems like my entire life has been controlled by TMS. From about 12 years old onward. I developed OCD type thoughts. I think it was to get out of homework, or not clean my room or maybe I was just didn't really want to grow up and face the big bad world.

Since the I've had every type of anxiety/skin problem/candida. I know how to get better but my mind continually distracts me. I'm getting better at it but still my brain sabotages me.

mental as anything

I too have suffered from OCD (and paranoia) - I guess it totally was the symptom imperative, because when that "wore off" I got physical symptoms of TMS. I did find that Omega-3 fish oils helped?

I know how to get better but my mind continually distracts me. I'm getting better at it but still my brain sabotages me.

Your mind WANTS to distract you! Don't let it!! Concentrate on the fact you ARE getting better!

Calling yourself mental is not a good idea - if you're having what you think are mad, odd, mental thoughts, this is a good thing to read: http://anxietynomore.co.uk/blog/2010/02/05/66/

"maybe I was just didn't really want to grow up and face the big bad world."

I am now seeing (with journalling) that this is one of my major issues. Sucks, but the big bad world is where life is :)

Oh, and I've often "wished" for back pain instead the anxiety and the physical symptoms I have, but that's not a good idea!

I believe Darko's system is such a good list, but it does take practice! Don't give up!!

I have read both of the recommended books--"Brain Lock" and "The Happiness Trap" and thought both were excellent though I do have some confusion about "The H. Trap."

The TMS approach may be very helpful for you but when it comes to OCD. I highly recommend "Brain Lock" by dr jeffrey schwartz MD. I read the book and applied dr schwartz's method and it worked for me. I had ocd since I was a young teen an had been on meds for ocd and anxiety. i overcame ocd using what i learned in the book, i overcame anxiety by doing my own CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) and I also did my own exposure therapy for the ocd and anxiety. i have been off of anti depressants for 3 or 4 years and off klonopin for 2 or 3 years, i cant remember exactly. im 90% recovered. i have job now which i hadnt had in years. i still deal withsmall amounts of anxiety and once in awhile i get the intrusive thoughts but i can quickly get through it and back to living life.

the pain and all the physical symptoms ive have mosly diminsihed using dr schubiners course. i still have personality traits that i feel cause me to have a relapse of symptoms. im definetly a worrier. im a work in progress but its amazing how much better i am compared to a few years ago.
I am sure i could be 100% better but im a procrasinator and i dont have alot of self discipline which i feel is needed to beat anxiety/tms. one of the guys on here says that tms is really just anxiety. which i feel may be true considering ive had anxiety since childhood.

i feel if you apply yourself you can overcome your symptoms. ive seen dramatic changes in my life and if i can overcome then it is certainly possible for you to overcome as well.

Wodg,
I kinda agree with Art about you sounding depressed. I was also very depressed at the start of this year and 2 things helped pull me out
1- 5HTP 2- L-Tyrosine.
5HTP occurs in the body naturally and is converted into serotonin ( feel good chemical ) and L-Tyrosine is needed for the process, it's an amino acid. 5HTP has worked as good if not better than anti-depressants in trials. I can't speak highly enough of them....plus they really help me to chill out. Google em....if you want any more info let me know.

I would also recommend a book called the happiness trap.....written by an Aussie and one of the best book around.

When I started feeling better things were easier to handle.

I still have screwed up thoughts but now I have a SYSTEM for dealing with them.

1- make space and allow the thoughts......don't resist them
2- unbind from the thought by objectifying it. "there's that xxxxxxx thought again, thanks for sharing"
3- examine any feelings that have resulted from these thoughts, allow them...make space for them
4- release the feelings
5- act in spite of any thoughts or feelings
6- start at number one again.

hope this helps

You've got a lot going on, needless to say. This is anathema around here, but anti-depressants are quite effective for OCD symptoms. Moreover, you do sound depressed.

Maybe you can find a way out simply by self-treating all your difficulties using a TMS approach, but maybe you can't.

If it were I, I'd keep all my options open and discuss my situation at length with an MD who has a good grounding in mind/body stuff.

I will grab on to any obsession to not deal with painfull thoughts. But the obsessive thoughts are awful to.

I would take any back pain any day over this. When things were going well in my life my back pain will kick in or I will get a severe amount of anxiety.

I'm stuck, I know what to do to get better and that is to get on with my life and feel these painfull emotions, do the things I have to do but don't want to like go to work, excercise, do my chores.

When I'm on the cusp of dealing with things/moving forward my TMS/brain will fark with me
