Posted - 09/09/2010 : 10:03:16 There are so many great book recommendations all throughout this forum, I felt it might be useful for all (especially newcomers), to have one central place to refer to for reading recommnedations.
So, if you have read a book(s) that you think might be helpful to others on this site, please list it here with name, author and most importantly why and how it was helpful to you. Please list as many as you like.
I have only read Sarno's books so unfortunately do not have what to contribute to this list, yet... |

Posted - 09/23/2010 : 06:49:24 cfhunter, Thanks for recommending the Deb Shapiro book. I'd never heard of it. I just got it. Just a brief glance through tells me it will be extremely helpful to me. It's similar to the Louise Hay book but goes into more depth. I like books like this because they point to what issues you may want to examine first in the depths of your psychology. |

Posted - 09/13/2010 : 22:40:29 Hi Golden Girl,
I recommended "A Headache in The Pelvis" for anyone battling pelvis 'disorders' such as Interstitial Cystitis.
Yes, there certainly was a lot of emphasis on trigger points, massage and their classes; however, I gained more validation and affirmation than anything from reading the book; affirming that IC was definitely stress/emotionally rooted. The book was just another helpful tool that opened my eyes to see the reality of IC being TMS. Dr. Andrews also taught some good points on learning to relax while feeling tense. What he had to say about that was helpful to me as well. I ignored the 'need' for massage and going through their program.
Thank you for asking my reason for recommending the book! I hope I answered you sufficiently!

1. Unlearn Your Pain by Dr. Howard Schubiner 2. I can't remember the title and I loaned the book to my friend so I can't check but the book written by Fred Amir is good and helpful. 3. Who Switched Off My Brain by Dr. Caroline Leaf 4. A Headache in The Pelvis by Dr. Anderson and Dr. Wise
Can I ask why you recommend #4 - I've considered reading it, but have read bad reviews on Amazon (saying it's just a sales pitch for their classes) and it seems to concentrate on trigger point physical therapy, rather than emotional causes?

Posted - 09/09/2010 : 14:56:09 Good idea Avik.
Books have been very helpful to me over the years since finding Dr. Sarno's work. They have helped me to continue my healing journey.
There is an extensive list of books and DVDs that TMSrs have found helpful, over at the TMS Wiki ( http://tmswiki.wetpaint.com/page/Books+%26+DVDs%2C+etc.) Each book has a short description, and some of the books have their own wiki page with more detailed information.
If you are not familiar, the TMS Wiki was created by someone who has recovered using Dr. Sarno's work. Several other TMSrs contribute to the site as well. The site is free, just like this one.
Best, Peg
