Posted - 08/11/2010 : 15:14:08 Anyone experience hemorrhoids I went to see a nutritionist after reoccurring bouts. For the last two months I have given up all sugar including fruit, Decaf coffee, alcohol, all grains all dairy.........You think that would do something ! If anything I'm worse and angry about denying a lot of food I enjoy . Finally went to an MD who ruled out anything serious, gave me a topical "numer" and Tramanol for pain. barely put a dent in the pain. So sounds like TMS. Would appreciate any feedback. And...all other symptoms I was experiencing are gone... knees, pain on outer thigh back and neck tightness.
Many Thanks |

Posted - 08/19/2010 : 20:32:54 Donnroc,
The small muscle in the rectum is the levator muscle. I didn't put my last post together very well because it's like I said I'm trying to forget about it and not focus on it anymore.
When the doctor told me that my lavator muscle was so tense and spasming and that this can cause a lot of pain that's when the light bulb went off! I had asked him what causes this and he said it's not known what causes it. I asked what could be done for this and he said nothing.
But then it finally dawned on me. Muscle spasm! I can take care of this. Because of a very intelligent person (Dr. Sarno) I can stop this.
The symptoms were a feeling of pressure, sharp pain, burning and constipation due to the muscle blocking the plumbing. I kept thinking that the pain was also a little higher than where the hemorrhoids were. And also my tail bone area became so painful too.
I was so obcessed with my symptoms. I learned all I could about hemorrhoids. I was so miserable for so long.
But when it all came together I started thinking about what was really bothering me psychologically. What could be brewing in my unconscious that was about to boil over. I also cussed my brain out for all this.
The great thing about the TMS principle is that you don't have to change your life or your personality you just have to acknowledge what is really going on (TMS) and accept it.
There's a great deal more to this story but I'm passing on the basics for now. I'm surprised that Dr. Sopher said hemmorrhoids aren't TMS because Dr. Sarno says TMS can affect any organ or system of the body. Anyway hemorrhoids weren't my problem.
Hang in there. Just like back pain you can have butt pain and get rid of it too!

Posted - 08/19/2010 : 15:36:57 If you read Louise Hay's "You Can Heal Your Life", she has an awesome guide in it as to a particular emotion or fear that may go with a physical malady. She states that hemorroids relate to deadline pressure. |

Posted - 08/19/2010 : 08:53:03 Thank You for your replies. I wrote to DR. Sopher (TMS doctor)who replied Hemorrhoids are not TMS. I was surprised but also realized that what I am experiencing does not feel like the situation which started about a year.I figured it was hemorrhoids, ordered some herbs online and they worked great! When similar symptoms occurred and would not responded to the herbs I went to see a nutritionist. That's when thing started to get chronic. In retrospect I realized what a perfect opportunity for TMS to appear on the scene. When I started to focus on the physical which of course was suggested by my nutritionist (with all his good intention)things became worse. I am now working the TMS program and feeling better.I believe it could possible be the small muscle in the rectum. Sarno does say that muscle & tenons are primary targets for our friend TMS. Anyway Thank You all for your suggestions and responses. This Forum ROCKS !

Posted - 08/18/2010 : 19:24:22 I have suffered anal pain and OCD since 1987. In 2004 after a bout of workplace bullying it became terrible.
I am ok at the moment and had logged on to discuss facial pain
Also for the anal pain, I actually have several diagnoses from psychiatrists that say it is psychological in origin. Which is amazing...
'Roids I am not so sure about. Although I did bleed after going and upon medical examination no obvious reason was apparent for this. |

Posted - 08/18/2010 : 14:37:26 HI,
I want to tell you about my rectum pain. About a couple of years ago I started to experience this along with the vulvodynia (pain of the genitals) that I had been suffering from for a long time already. I also was going through IBS I realise now. Anyway I thought the pain must be due to hemmorhoids because of the constipation and location of the pain. So I started researching anything I could find about the symptoms of hemmorhoid, etc. I became determined and spent a lot time and worry on this which is just what my unconscious mind wanted me to do.
Then I began to have pain around the tailbone area. It got to where I couldn't sit or even lean on anything. I couldn't recline on the recliner. All I could do was lay on my side and suffer.
I went to see a couple of gastroenterologists but wouldn't let them do a physical exam. They didn't impress me and I just wanted to talk to them.
After hurting for a few months more I found a gastroenterologist who specialized in proctology in a town 45 miles away. The car ride was miscerable. I liked this doc and after talking to him he did a less intrusive physical exam with a cone and a light.
He told me that I did have some hemorrhoids at the anal verge but that they weren't that bad. He said I was healthier than I thought and didn't think they were the source of my pain.
I was pleased by what he said but frustrated about still not having an answer for the pain. But by the time I got to my car it hit me! Damn, I was duped again. TMS! I just grinned to myself with relief. Even tho I was still uncomfortable driving home I knew what to do. Stop worrying about it. Sure enough after about 3 days I was 50% better. In several weeks I was about all better. I kept rereading the principals of Dr. Sarno's books. I had doubted that rectum pain could be TMS because it's really not covered in the books and I needed that assurance.
Anyway the amazing thing is the vulvodynia that I had suffered from since 2002 stopped as well too! Also the teeth and gum pain..
I still get a bit of IBS if I'm going through strong stress and anxiety. I take 50mg of Colace for a few days and continue reminding my unconcious that I KNOW what it's trying to do and it resolves. I don't have to eat or not eat anything to help it as I had thought.
I know this is long. Sorry about that but maybe this will help you.
Just remembered something else. The proctologist said I was having levator muscle spasms. He could see that the muscle was very tense and that was what was causing the pain. So I correct myself. I'm trying to forget about this as much as possible and put it away. It's not going to get my attention like it did before.
Also I'm a vegan and have been since 1990. My diet is full of good stuff and I still developed these symptoms (which were TMS due to unconcious emotions).

Posted - 08/17/2010 : 11:17:03 hemmies are also genetic...my entire family has them.
TMS principles did not work for this problem for me. Only thing that did was the surgery. After years of trying everything else. Awful surgery at age 33 but the best thing I ever did. Not everything is TMS. |

Posted - 08/13/2010 : 18:48:11 donnroc, The only thing I can tell you is that by following the bathroom habits I suggested, going becomes less tramatic and the roids will slowly heal up. I don't know whether to reccomend this because I hated how I felt when I took this but with ibs you either go 5 times a day or have alternating constipation, both of which aggravate the hemorroids. I tried the Activia Challenge and it really helped regulate me. I did it for the suggested 2 weeks and I became regular to going once a day. During the 2 weeks I had the sensation that I had to go but couldn't. My gut just felt weird but about 2 weeks after I quit I felt really good and do to this day,3 months later. I follow the jolly bathroom plan and quit worring about when or if I go. The hemorrhoids healed up during the first two weeks as I was going easily and regularly. Hope this helps.Susie |

Posted - 08/12/2010 : 21:16:02 Thank You Susie, Not familiar with the term ips ? However I appreciate and I'm diffidently leaning to your view point. a. it's chronic b. my extremely clean diet has not helped c.other chronic symptoms knee ,neck thigh pain all gone, indicating to me that this problem is sufficient for the TMS trickster and it doesn't need any other symptoms to play out it's terror.
thanks again |

Posted - 08/12/2010 : 20:57:14 Donnroc, I hate to be disagreeable, but I know they are related to ibs which is very tmsee. I find that when I have a flare up it is always related to stress or fear. I don't find diet to affect me and I have tried all different remedies although eating fruit and drinking alot of water is always a good thing. I read a blog by a sufferer once that really helped me. He said never spend more than 10 minutes at a time on the pot. Sit in a bent over position instead of straight up. It is a more natural position for us. Also, the most difficult, never ever strain. With ibs, the more you go, the more exposure you have to aggravate them. If you can possibly get past worring about them and not keep trying to go or keeping track when you go ,they will improve. I don't use the ointments anymore because they just draw more attention to the brain that there is a problem. Like all tms, if you can quit thinking about it, it will go away. To me, the more you concentrate on diet, then the more you are looking for results which causes constant attention to the problem. Hope this helps you because they are pure misery. Susie |

Posted - 08/12/2010 : 15:02:20 Seems like darko has it about right. I agree that cutting out fruits and vegetables would be the right thing only if you want to make them worse.
I also do not believe they have anything to do with TMS.

Posted - 08/11/2010 : 16:32:58 Oh dear.......I'm gonna just jump in and say you probably need to stop pushing the issue......if you get what I'm saying. I've had issues with this from time to time and it's always because I'm in a hurry and I'm not treating my body well. I'm making assumptions here so I apologise if I'm wrong, but diet is the first place to start!
1- get rid of the junk food in your diet, eat way more fruit and veg.....not sure what drugs that nutritionist is on but fruit is ESSENTIAL for an easy stool.....no wonder it's worse, that person is a clown!!! Eat lots of fruit, and if you can get yourself a juicer and drink fruit juice in the mornings, you'll not only feel good but things will move easy. If you eat heaps of meat then especially make sure you eat loads of fruit and veg
2- water, water and more water.....especially if you have a high protein diet. I have trouble going if my body isn't hydrated properly. If the body needs water, then it will take it from where every it can get it including fecal matter, which makes it difficult going to the toilet.
3- not sure if you can get it in the States but get some cream called calendula - from the Calendula Officinalis flower. The cream is natural and I swear by it. Helps with rashes and wounds, but super great for hems
hems are caused by ruptured blood vessels as far as I know, and straining does this. When I do the above which is just normal for me I never have any problems.
if fact if you want to get better quick eat nothing but fruit and veg for the next 4 days....pain will ease when you go and it will be easier going.
Also I don't believe them to be TMS, more a result of poor lifestyle and bad habits. If you're fit, healthy, exercise and take care of the body and still have dramas then TMS could be the cause, but this hasn't been my experience.
good luck
