Hello,

First time posting to this forum.

I've been a follower of Dr. Sarno's methods for over 12 years now. Once I understood the TMS theory I've always been able to nip any serious back pain in the bud before it became a real problem. As soon as I feel it coming on I stop and try to figure out what is causing the tension and it usually just goes away. On a few occaisions when it has come on really strong, I lie down and listen to an audio copy of Healing Back Pain. I've only had to do that 2 or 3 times over the last twelve years and it has always worked. All this to say, I'm a complete believer in TMS.

About four weeks ago I was totally stressed out one morning and could feel the TMS coming on strong. Strong enough that I knew I should have laid down and popped in the audiobook but we had a lunch planned and against my better judgement we went. Halfway through the lunch I had a full on sciatica spasm and basically ended up on my back and side for the next 5 days. That was the first time since my original problem 12 years earlier that I had a spasm that incapacitated me. Although it was the first time I had sciatica (the pain is usually in my back) and I could not walk, I was not freaked out as I knew it was TMS, I was in spasm and I would just have to ride it out. And if five days I was up walking around again. Resumed all activities the following week including weightlifting and kayaking with no more pain.

But while I had no more pain, and still don't, I noticed that I had lost most of the strength in my left calf muscle. At first it did not bother me as I was sure that this too was TMS, but now four weeks into this, I am starting to get concerned and thinking of going to a traditional doc. So my questions are... has anyone else out there experience severe weakness of the calf (I can not lift my body weight) as a symptom of TMS... and if so, how long did it take to come back. My heart wants to believe that this is TMS but my mind is starting to play games with me.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks for the success story. Looking around this site has reminded me of the sinister and crafty nature of TMS. I'm pretty sure that this calf problem is a new incarnation of TMS.

I believe so. I'm also struggling with the same issue as you, weakness in one of my legs.
Check out this guys success story.
