Posted - 03/07/2010 : 20:40:18 For over 6 months now I have experienced a pressure in my sternum that I can relieve by stretching my arms really far back. This causes a pop in my chest which then normally causes the pressure/pain to subside.
Recently I sneezed and it made a loud pop which hurt like hell and I have been tender ever since. I have trouble sneezing now because the pain stops me half way.
I am wondering if this could be a TMS symptom, as in retrospect, this started occurring at a similar time my other TMS symptoms started amping up.
I am thinking a) it's TMS b) I have popped a rib c) a chiropractor I was seeing started the whole thing off by fiddling with my back and adjusting ribs.
Ideas? |

But first it would be cautious to see an MD to eliminate a potentially entirely physical problem and also make sure your spine is not misaligned which or course indicates too much tension somewhere.
It also depends what you mean by pop sound as only you can feel it: Under constant tension the muscles that overlap one another can knot and pull things out of place or bulge and push on something else like it did in the lower back in my experience (people often say my back popped out and it felt like it made a pop sound) and it is all so tight that under the right conditions it goes in or out of place and creates pain and makes you feel like something snapped. I think it would be more like a snap sound for what I remember of it.
I remember a specialist in Facia therapy working on my chest muscles to eliminate a knot in my back. Much to my amazement it worked really well at the time. Or maybe it's all the three reasons you mention at the same time that piled up but a broken or cracked rib is extremely painful and you would have some difficulty breathing even more so sneezing at all and forget about being posting here in such condition . |
