I have been messing around with EFT and wanted to post my experience here. I did a search for eft and got a lot of posts about people's left feet, etc. so I tried "eft" and to one thread only:
http://www.tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4719&SearchTerms=%22eft%22

So, don't yell at me. I tried. I'd love to see the archives on this topic if someone can tell me how to access them.

Anyway, I am a total Sarno fan (since the early 1990s) and have had excellent results but, like many of us, still have my relapses and new symptoms. I am absolutely convinced that most of what ails me is connected to "narcissistic rage". Try to convince my friends and family, though. Very few will listen and even if they give it a try (and find it helps) they don't continue. People are funny critters.

So, I keep looking. Many years ago, I came across a forerunner of EFT and used it on my brother who is asthmatic and allergic to everything. He told me he was having trouble with the emissions from an alfalfa pellet plant near his home. So I tapped him. That was over 15 years ago and he hasn't had a single problem with this since. Trouble is, he promptly forgot he'd ever had a problem! He gets a funny look on his face when I remind him and says "well, I'm not allergic to alfalfa". Yet, he certainly was.

The tapping I did on him then was from a guy called Roger Callahan. It was really, really silly stuff. EFT is silly, too, but I'm desperate because my sister recently tried to kill herself. She is in horrifying pain from fibromyalgia but she won't even consider the TMS approach. Coincidentally, she sees a counsellor who uses Callahan's tapping (yes, I introduced them) but she doesn't give it much credit. Then she stopped seeing him for awhile and tried to kill herself.

So, I went looking for updates on this tapping stuff - something that might be easier to apply w/o feeling like an idiot. I bought the $ 300 set of EFT training videos (not to worry, there's a six month guarantee and I do return things if they are not worth the price) but the BIG news is that I came across a new system called -- are you ready for this? WHEE. I'm not even going to attempt to tell you the "real" name. This one is the invention of a Dr. Benor who is a Canadian psychiatrist now practising in New Jersey, I believe.

The WHEE system involves much less goofy tapping and sounds a little more well thought out and scientific but still goes on about energy blocks in the electrical system. Whatever. Personally, I don't really care why anybody thinks something works. If it works, good. If it stops working, move on. This is what makes me a nightmare to the medical system. Doctors hate me because I won't take pills unless they work and keep working. I also stop taking them if they make me sick. I have trouble imagining what makes a "compliant" patient tick.

Sorry this is so long -- I'm venting because my sister tried to kill herself and I need to vent. My sister and I were both sexually abused as very small children. We don't have much memory of it but our father was one of nature's own a**holes so there's no doubt about it. For one thing, as a black out drunk age 13 or so, I was apparently famous for what I'd do for the boys in the bushes. Sober, I didn't even know I had a "down there". Meanwhile dear old mom was an alcoholic with a mean streak of narcissism. Great childhood.

So far the WHEE is working (about 2 weeks, now). It is giving me truly blessed relief from: diabetic neuropathy, incessant nightmares, agonizing fibromyalgia, and other stuff that the Sarno method sometimes helped but never resolved. This probably won't either but it has been a good two weeks.

With WHEE, I have one more tool to peel off a layer of pain whenever one surfaces. Maybe I can even convince my sister to give it a try.

Not to worry, I'll always be grateful to Dr. Sarno and will continue to apply lessons learned.

Update: I have been using EFT daily since I last posted and gradually working through the enormous number of issues I seem to have accumulated over a lifetime. I am half way through the EFT training videos so have let WHEE lapse a bit and will get back to it later. Since WHEE builds on EFT I thought it made sense to start with EFT.

So, how's it going? I feel really good -- much more comfortable in my own skin. My relationships are defnitely better. I have a long way to go, however. One EFT technique is to make a long list of every incident you can remember (in your whole life!) that still comes with an emotional charge and deal with them one at a time. I am just starting this process.

I am still of the opinion that EFT is a great way to deal with issues that don't resolve with Sarno's techniques. EFT can work very quickly on some problems but a lifetime of accumulated hurt may require enormous patience, skill and self-understanding. Worth the effort, though. We have nothing to lose but our narcissism.

I forgot to mention that my sister is seeing her EFT practitioner again and feeling much better. She has trouble taking him seriously but is trying.

Thought I'd update on EFT. I've been tapping away like a mad fool and must say that the results are still impressive. My fibromyalgia is gone (except in my hands for some weird reason) and I am even finding that I need considerably less insulin to keep my blood sugar stable since I started tapping for addictions to food. Have also been telling my cells to open up but have no idea if that's part of the change. There is a HUGE improvement in my diabetic neuropathy. Also, I have life long sleep problems that are much better.

Turns out I am a person with many layers (they call it "aspects") to go through before most problems are resolved. I find myself able to relax whenever I feel anxious which is a nice feature.

Sorry to neglect the thread but I've been away. Actually, WHEE is very easy to learn.

WHEE stands for Wholistic Hybrid of EFT and EDMR. EMDR seems odd, too, but more accepted by the medical establishment.

Dr. Benor's WHEE program starts with an ebook for $ 10 (can also be purchased in book form from amazon, etc.). There is also a workbook for around $ 20 and some demonstrations, etc. on video. I've got them all because I have many really messed up friends and relatives and need something that will help them. Not to mention my own problems.

By comparison with WHEE, Dr. Sarno's theories are easy to accept and we all know how few people will even consider them. Dr. Benor does do a good job of explaining the nature of the human body's "electrical system" and relates it to the Eastern concept of "chi" or "qi". He says the east and west viewpoints are different ways of looking at the same thing.

Anyway, I've tried to write a succinct statement of his theory and have, so far, managed to confuse the issue, so you will have to read it for yourselves, if you are interested.

He's fairly convincing if you listen to the whole thing. Personally, I don't care if something sounds good or goofy -- all that matters to me is whether or not it works. If it doesn't, I move on. I read Sarno's book on healing your back many years ago and it worked for me. Oddly, it helped other people I know but they can't accept it. Go figure.

WHEE works too, imo, so I thought I'd share it with the forum. In fact, I think the two blend very nicely and complement each other.

I'm intrigued if not skeptical. Can someone elaborate a bit on what this entails. Is it easily mastered? Thanks.

Fascinating information at the WHEE site. Thanks - I'm going to play with this.

Check out this paragraph from the WHEE guy, re TMS:

Pain

Pain responds dramatically to WHEE. Pains from trauma, arthritis, migraines and other causes respond within minutes - even when they have been present for a long time.

A caution here, however. Pains often come to be a part of one's life. Without the pain, a person may actually have unexpected difficulties in feeling comfortable in certain situations and in dealing with relationships WHEE can help with these problems, as well.

Because of these problems, it is sometimes important to reduce the pain gradually, even though one may be able to eliminate the pain entierly in a very short period with WHEE.

Love is the answer, whatever the question

So sorry to about your sister, it's tough to help someone in that situation. I have a friend that uses EFT with success for pain. The issues from childhood are always there, affecting us today. I hope things get better for you and your sister.
