Posted - 01/11/2005 : 12:20:48 I thought I'd introduce myself after lurking for a few weeks. I'm really enjoying reading all of your posts. I'm finding it helpful as I deal with a flare-up of what I am sure is TMS.
My main TMS pain site is my feet, or more specifically, my heels. It mimics a condition known as plantar fasciitis and/or heel spur syndrome. The first few times I experienced the classic symptoms of PF in my left foot (heel pain in the morning, in a specific location), I didn't think much of it. I saw a podiatrist, got a shot of cortisone, wore my sneakers more, and that was it. The last time my left heel acted up, I sat down and did some research on the internet. I found a message board of fellow heel pain sufferers, and things snowballed from there. Reading about people who had dealt with this for decades, who were almost totally disabled or crippled from surgery made my feet feel worse. The pain was no longer typical: It was all the time, and it moved around in my feet. I ran to a new podiatrist who x-rayed both feet and showed me the bone spurs. Now my right foot, which had never bothered me before, began to hurt as much as my left. I spent several months trying out various splints and braces, PT, and cortisone shots, which all failed to make a dent in my pain. Finally, I read a post on that foot pain site from a man who claimed to have thought his pain away. He mentioned Dr. Sarno. The reaction from other posters was swift and hostile, but I knew I had to investigate. I ordered HBP from Amazon (feet hurt too much to walk a block to Borders), and spent the next few weeks reading, re-reading and highlighting. My feet were 95% better within 3 weeks and have remained so, with the exception of a few flare-ups. (Yes, I am still working on that last 5%, because a part of me still feels that there is something legitimately wrong with my feet that causes a little bit of pain.)
I am now dealing with a new TMS site (elbows and wrists - tennis elbow), which is how I found this wonderful forum. I am always looking for more insight into my condition, and you all have provided me with plenty. Thank you! |

Posted - 01/11/2005 : 17:20:52 Hi Lynn.
One of my favorite Baseball players came down with PF right AFTER he signed a 6 year 60 million dollar deal.I knew he was a very conscientious man,was well liked by everybody, and had just had his third child. He is/was known as one of the nicest ,least complaining guys in all of Baseball(a good formula for TMS)...and missed the rest of that season after having the surgery for PF It effectively ended his career...they made him a designated hitter(no fielding) and then of course he had shoulder surgery, back problems,etc...never at the same time.Since he signed that contract 5 years ago,he has played about 1 seasons worth of games and spent the rest of the time nursing some sort of ailment.
To hear all the obscure diagnosis, all you have to do is turn on your favorite sport!
I'm glad you got it,and made the "translation"...others don't always see the connection.
welcome

Nice to meet you. I'm new to this site to and to TMS. I've found this forum absolutely wonderful so far! I know what you mean about how reading others' descriptions of pain on some of these other sites. Not helpful at all. I'm glad you've found this forum and I hope you'll keep posting!
